China Glaze – TTYL

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

It’s that day of the week again, where Swedish nail blogs offer up photos of some holographic goodies for Skimmerskuggans Holo Friday. This time I’m showing you the peachy/warm pink colored TTYL from China Glaze’s legendary OMG!-collection. This is probably the least exciting color for me in that collection, but that doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful. I had no troubles applying it, I’m pretty sure it’s three coats. The photos were shot earlier this year when there was still proper daylight here in Sweden.

Even thought it’s not really my type of color, I felt very comfortable wearing this.

Worthless knowing: I didn’t actually know what TTYL meant until today, and if I’m not the only one out there: it’s an acronym for Talk To You Later.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Catrice – Steel My Soul

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

Chaosophia of One Inch Nails wanted to see Steel My Soul, so that’s where I’m starting with the polishes that I bought in Germany. On the top of the cap it says “Brushed Metal Effect” and I think this is a fairly new polish that came out this Fall. It’s a light mauve taupe color with golden shimmer in it. So, what’s this brushed metal effect? It dries semi-matte (and pretty quick), and it does have a bit of a gritty feeling. I don’t really mind that as I think it’s interesting with some texture. To be honest I don’t think it looks that good up close, but at a distance it looks really cool. The formula is a little thick, and since it dries fast you need to be generous with the coats and don’t be too slow, or else there’s a risk of making a mess. I ended up with two-three coats on my nails.

It was a grey boring day so I did my best with the little light that was present.

I added a coat och Seche Vite to my index and ring finger nails, to see what it looks like with a shiny top coat on. The shimmer is more subdued, and the base color gets a little deeper.

An extra photo where I managed to capture some sunshine that bothered to show up for a couple of minutes:

Which do you think looks best? Up close i definitely prefer it glossy, but at a distance I really like the texture and color, it looks “natural” in some weird way, plus the shimmer is more prominent.

Models Own – Golden Green

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

Golden Green from Models Own (the Beetlejuice collection) is a polish that I hadn’t tried until a couple of months ago. I don’t understand why I waited so long, it’s gorgeous! As the name implies the base color is a golden green, and it shifts to a deep grassy green. This is three or four coats with Seche Vite on top.

My cuticles looks awful on these photos so I’ve tried to blur them a little, don’t know if it did much of a difference though.

I’ll definitely be wearing this one again!

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Astatine

Friday, November 16th, 2012

This is just a quick post before bed time, but I wanted to get it out while it’s still Holo Friday =) Astatine is the last polish I’m showing from Cactus’ Nail Polish and the wonderful Spectrum β collection. It’s a very dark gray, nearly black holographic polish. I applied three thin coats of this.

Astatine is a real beauty in the sun. Good job Cactus!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Zoya – Kimber

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

I’m still digging through photos from the past year to edit for the blog, it’s nice to have something to fall back on when there’s hardly any light to photograph in these days. Here’s a polish that I wore a few months back, the beautiful Kimber from Zoya’s Surf Collection. From what I can tell the color is a mix of coral, red and pink, and it’s filled with orange/golden shimmer. I don’t remember the number of coats, but if I would guess it’s probably my usual three with Seche Vite on top.

Just look at that beautiful shimmer!

A Frankfurt Haul

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

A couple of months ago I spent a weekend in Frankfurt, Germany. The main event was to see Nickelback live (wohoo!), but it was also an excellent opportunity to take a look at some beauty brands that aren’t available here in Sweden. I found quite a few pretty polishes that followed me home.

Six Essence polishes:

L-R: Holo Topping, Please!, Night In Vegas, Glorious Aquarius, Chic Reloaded, Walk on the Wild Side, Oh My Glitter!

And a few Catrice and Alessandro:

Catrice L-R: Dirty Berry, Steel My Soul, King Of Greens

Alessandro L-R: Black Velvet, Mood Brown

I was so happy to finally get to drool over the Essence polishes, I’ve seen a lot of them on Nihrida’s blog for example. Unfortunately I hadn’t had time to do any research before my shopping spree so I just went with my gut feeling, but after swatching a few I think I got a nice catch =)

Is there anything in particular you’d like to see?

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Magnesium

Friday, November 9th, 2012

It’s that day of the week again, Holo Friday!

The third polish I decided to try from Cactus’ Nail Polish was Magnesium, which is a cool green shade. I applied two thicker coats of this, and it dried super quick. There is no top coat on the photos, you may notice that it looks a little matte. It has a beautiful scattered holographic effect, I tried my best to capture it in the morning sun:

I’m a real sucker for greens like these!

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Boron

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

After being quiet for a few weeks I finally have something to show you for Skimmerskuggans Holo Friday. The second polish I tried from Cactus was the beautiful blue Boron. Unfortunately I can’t remember the number of coats this was, but I would guess three. There were some unsolved pigment pieces floating around in this one, but the few that I got on the nail was pretty easy to “melt”, there were only a few small dots left that you could notice.

As usual these shots were taken in sunlight:

I absolutely love the light royal blue shade, I don’t have any holo like this in my collection.

Ozotic – 505

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

It’s Halloween today, but unfortunately I haven’t had time to do anything fun with either nails or makeup today. But I have an enchanting polish to show you at least. I started out with one coat of the black Camelot from A England (and a coat of Seche Vite), and then I applied one coat of Ozotic 505. And look at the magic that appeared! This is truly a multichrome polish, shifting between teal, blurple, purple, burgundy and copper.

Behold the beauty:

The final shot was taken in sunlight to show the shimmer:

I think I’m in love…

And with this I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

Boo! =)

China Glaze – Dance Baby

Sunday, October 28th, 2012

Hi, it’s been a while.. I haven’t had time for blogging for quite a while but now I’m trying to catch up a little. It’s still October so I thought I would post something pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I happened to have some photos of Dance Baby from the Electropop collection. And I have to say that I’m in love with this cool bubblegum pink creme! It applied nicely with two coats, and it’s a gorgeous shade that stands out in my collection.

These photos were taken in natural light, with no sun:
