China Glaze – IDK

Friday, January 18th, 2013

These photos have been lying around since last year, probably since I didn’t think they’re that good (evil dry hands!). But they’ll have to do now, I’ve missed Skimmerskuggans‘s Holo Fridays’ a lot lately and I want to show something today. This is the light purple IDK from China Glaze’s OMG-collection. This is one of my faves from that collection, being the purple lover that I am. This is probably three or four coats.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this collection, it’s fantastic!

I know I’ve been quiet on the blogs lately, I hope to get some time to catch up this weekend.

I’m alive, I think..

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

I didn’t mean to be so quiet on this new year, but an evil cold struck me a couple of weeks ago so I’ve been best buddies with the bed for a while. I’m still planning on doing a top list of last years favorites, I’ll just need some more time to think it through =) I feel that the longer the break gets, the harder it is for me to get back to blogging.

And while I’m at it, a little update on my nails. My nails were way too long a couple of months ago, which resulted in me breaking both of my thumb nails. During the holidays the crack in my right thumbnail had almost reached the end of my nail bed, and it decided it was time to give up:

And with this I decided it was time to shorten my nails. So yes, be prepared for some short nails when I have some new manicures to show you. I actually kinda like it, the feeling when rubbing my kitties’ bellies with my fingertips.. aaaah.. =)

IsaDora – Polar Nights

Sunday, December 30th, 2012

I searched for this polish for weeks before I finally found it in a store, and I wanted to try it out before the end of the year. IsaDora Polar Nights is a gorgeous polish consisting of small silver glitter and hex glitter in a dark blue jelly base. I needed three coats for full opacity, and added a coat of Seche Vite to make it smooth. The formula is really good and glides on without feeling goopy, but I still dislike the big brush.

There wasn’t really much light today so the photos are taken with high ISO. And ignore the dry hands, I didn’t have time to moisturize after removal of my previous manicure.

I really like how some of the glitter is buried in the blue base but still shines through.

If you haven’t got your paws on this one yet I suggest you do, it’s wonderful!

Color Club – Blue Heaven

Friday, December 28th, 2012

I almost forgot it was Friday today, but thankfully I still have some unpublished photos of holographic goodness. Today I’ll be showing you Color Club Blue Heaven for Holo Friday. It’s a very pale and light blue, so if you see it on its own you might think it’s just a silver. This is three thin coats and the formula is terrific.

I’m in love with these rainbows!

I can’t believe it’s just three days left of this year! I still have loads of unedited photos from the past year, so something tells me you will get to see some old stuff well into next year. Better late than never I guess? =)

China Glaze – Winter Holly

Tuesday, December 25th, 2012

I forgot my camera at home, but I just wanted to show you my manicure for Christmas. This is one coat of the dark green Hunter Green from IsaDora, and then one coat of China Glaze Winter Holly, which is a beautiful mix of green, gold and prismatic glitter. Please forgive me for this crappy mobile photo:

You have to use your imagination to see how gorgeous this is =)

Merry Christmas, I hope you’re all having a wonderful time with friends and family!

Update December 27th: I was lucky to have some sun today so I took a few photos with a fresh layer of top coat on. My, does this glitter eat top coat or what!

Do you see all the pretty colors twinkling in there? It’s wonderful!

NailArt Sunday – Tänd Ett Ljus

Sunday, December 23rd, 2012

The theme for LeLack’s NailArt Sunday this week is a Swedish Christmas song called Tänd Ett Ljus, which mean Light a candle. I’ve been doing quite a literal interpretation of the lyrics, which includes darkness, (children of the) the earth, a candle, and a falling star. It’s one of my favorite songs this time of year so it was really fun to do.

I started with two coats of A England Bridal Veil, for a dark starry night sky. With dotting tools I did a very irregular candle. For the globe I first painted a half circle with China Glaze Man Hunt, and then Catrice King Of Greens was added with a dotting tool. This is a very arbitrary world map =)

For the star fall I first tried to paint a star by hand, but it failed miserably so I just put on a star that I had in my stash, and the star trail was made with OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle.

Here’s a shot of all the polishes used:

L-R: A England Bridal Veil, China Glaze Man Hunt, Catrice King Of Greens, MIYO Sunny, Eyeko Coral Polish, China Glaze Snow, OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle.

Now I need to go and do everything that has to be done for tomorrow, like wrapping all the Christmas gifts and deciding what manicure to wear tomorrow. Do you know what you’ll be wearing for Christmas? I’m thikning of something green or silver.

Glitter Gal – Not Another Red

Friday, December 21st, 2012

So, Friday before Christmas, I figured I would show you the only red holographic polish I have to date. Glitter Gal Not Another Red is a pinky red polish from their 3D Holographic range. It’s my only Glitter Gal polish so far and after trying this I’m definitely getting more! This is two coats and it was really easy to apply. The holographic effect isn’t super strong, but you get nice scattered rainbows in the sun.

The last photo is taken indoors in sunlight, the color looks a little deeper there.

I can’t believe that it’s Christmas in just a few days, I haven’t really had time to stop and think lately. But I do know that I look forward to having some time off!

Depend – 2036 Ocean Green

Friday, December 14th, 2012

Today I only have some photos shot with flash to show you for Holo Friday, but I hope they will do anyway. This is one of Depend’s holographic polishes, number 2036 with the name Ocean Green, though I think it looks more aqua/blue. I know I’m quite late to the party with trying these out, but I just haven’t got around to it until now. It was pretty sheer so I had to use four coats, next time I’ll definitely be using it for layering.

I love the color of this polish, and the holo effect is really nice:

I have been a bad blogger lately, work is still taking up a lot of time an energy for me so the photos I’ve taken are just stacking up. I hope I’ll get around to produce some more posts soon!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Essence – Walk On The Wild Side

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

Here’s a real beauty from Essence, the dark mossy green Walk On The Wild Side. It contains shimmer in a lighter green shade, and there’s also a hint of gold in there that you can see in the last photo. This is two coats, the formula was a little on the thick side, but if you just have enough polish on the brush it’s fine. I then added a coat of Seche Vite as usual.

I just love the new bottles that Essence have, with caps that coordinate with the color of the polish.

The last photo is taken with flash, and you can see some tiny gold specks there.

I really liked this, it feels like a perfect polish for Fall!

NailArt Sunday – Stone Marble

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

You don’t see a lot of nail art on this blog, and that’s something that I’m trying to do something about. Some of my excuses are lack of time and lack of skills, but you have to practice to get better right? And today is Sunday so I can actually take part of Lela’s NailArt Sunday! When I saw this beautiful manicure at One Inch Nails yesterday I wanted to try something similar myself. Can you really go wrong with some plastic wrap?

Well, my take on it is nowhere near as beautiful, but I kinda like the effect, it reminds me of stone marble so that’s what I’ve decided to call it. The base is a week old manicure with China Glaze Below Deck, a taupe/mauve type of color. I figured I should go with another neutral color on top, so I chose Pelican Gray from the same collection. I applied one coat of that, and then immediately dabbed away on the nails with a piece of scrunched plastic wrap.  To get an even texture I then added a coat of Seche Vite. The index finger nail looks a bit messy, I had to redo a part of that nail.

This last picture is pretty bad in quality, but I just wanted to show you a full hand photo of the manicure:

It may not be the most exciting manicure, but I like it with its discrete colors.
