Cactus’ Nail Polish – Astatine

Friday, November 16th, 2012

This is just a quick post before bed time, but I wanted to get it out while it’s still Holo Friday =) Astatine is the last polish I’m showing from Cactus’ Nail Polish and the wonderful Spectrum β collection. It’s a very dark gray, nearly black holographic polish. I applied three thin coats of this.

Astatine is a real beauty in the sun. Good job Cactus!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Jade – Magia Negra

Friday, September 7th, 2012

It’s time for Kerstin’s Holo Friday again! This time I have the beautiful Magia Negra from Jade to show you, from the Holográfico collection. This is the blackest holographic I have, and it’s absolutely stunning. Thankfully the sun was out when I was photographing this. I applied three coats for maximum coverage, but I think two can work as well.

I love how dark it looks, while still producing beautiful (and somewhat scattered) rainbows.

And here’s a shot of it in the shade:

It looks like a lighter grey without the holographic action going on.

I only intended to wear this during the weekend, but I couldn’t part with it so I had it to work for almost a week =)

It surely is black magic in a bottle!

A England – Bridal Veil

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Wohoo it’s time for Kertin’s Holo Friday! The next polish I’ve tried from A England’s new Legend collection is the nearly black Bridal Veil, which also has a scattered holographic effect as most of the others in the collection. It was opaque in two coats and then I added Seche Vite on top. I have to say that I really like this polish! Okay, I am a bit weak for black shades, but the holographic particles makes it more special, even if the effect isn’t super strong.

Time for pic spam!

And I also took a photo in the shade:

It looks mostly black with tiny silver shimmer.

I decided to do some comparisons as well with some other polishes in my collection. Say hello to Color Club Revvvolution and Eyeko Cosmic polish:

L-R: Color Club Revvvolution, A England Bridal Veil – Eyeko Cosmic Polish

L-R: Color Club Revvvolution, A England Bridal Veil – Eyeko Cosmic Polish

As you can see Bridal Veil is much darker than Revvvolution, and doesn’t have such a strong holographic effect. The particles also seem to be of a finer grain in BV. Cosmic Polish isn’t really a real holographic polish as it only has holographic glitter in it, but I thought it could be interesting to add as a reference.

KleanColor Metallic Black And Some Layering With Nfu Oh 48

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Mmmm.. black… *said in Homer Simpson style while drooling*. KleanColor Metallic Black looks nearly black with its silver shimmer, and dries a little matte. I really love this finish, and as with the rest of the polishes in this collection one coat was enough (except for the ring finger, I was clumsy and dented it).

It looks like there’s tip wear, but I had just filed my nails and it kind of looked weird because of that.

The shimmer looks quite lovely in the sun.

While I was taking photos inside, my cat Lakrits wanted to join in, so here you have a fur background =)

I thought this polish was perfect to layer something on, so I chose my Nfu Oh 48 to put on top of it. That one has a sheer pink base, with silver shimmer and flakies that change color between yellow, orange, green and some kind of salmon pink. Let’s see what that looks like:

I really like this combination!

Here you see some of the color shifts in the flakies.

Ooops, haven’t done my cleanup I see..

Some Graffiti on Galaxy..

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Before I took Galaxy off I wanted to try out my black Isadora Graffiti polish, Black Tag. It took a while before I got my hands on it and I craved it soo bad! And when I finally got it it just lay in my drawer for over a month.. I guess the important thing is to own it =)

Taken inside with flash. I’d had Galaxy on for over a week so there’s some tip wear going on.

I didn’t apply a top coat as I like the matte finish, it makes a nice contrast to the underlying polish. This polish seemed a little thinner than my Subway Green, so on my right hand it didn’t crack up quite as nice as the layer was a bit too thin. But I’m quite satisfied with my left hand.

What do you think of crackle polishes? Yay or nay?

Millennium cow nails

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

This is an altered design from what I’ve had once in a while before, cow nails, but this time with silver as a base. For this I’ve used China Glaze Millennium, and the cow spots are made with a toothpick and Nyx Ink Nail art in black. I tried using the brush first but I failed quite miserably. Sorry for the bad photos and the tip wear, but I hope you can get a sense of it anyway.
