Cactus’ Nail Polish – Spectrum β Collection

September 7th, 2012

Look what I got in the mail the other day! I think a lot of you Swedish readers know what this is. It’s a holographic collection made by the Swedish blogger of Cactus’ Nail Polish, with the thoughtful name of Spectrum β. Apparently you can determine what elements are present out in space by doing a spectral analysis, and the polishes’ colors are made to correspond with what colors show up for each element (emission lines). Or something like that, go have a read on Cactus’ explanation or Wikipedia if you want more in depth information =)

L-R: Magnesium, Polonium, Boron, Astatine

I’m looking forward to trying these! At first glance I love the blue shade of Boron, and the turquoise color of Polonium is a shade I’ve been thinking of mixing myself. but I’m a lazy b*tch and never get anything done, so it’s faster to pay for someone else’s hard work =)
Magnesium is a medium cool green, and last but not least Astatine is a very dark grey/black? shade.

I took these photos in a hurry last morning when the sun was finally shining, but of course it was gone again at the end of the day. I’m hoping for more sun soon so I can take them for a ride!

As this collection was pretty limited most of the polishes sold out the first day, I think Mangesium is still available. I’m sorry for those of you who didn’t get what you wanted. But after missing out on the holographic polishes that Sanna of MakeupMyLack made, I wasn’t going to do the same mistake again =)

Jade – Magia Negra

September 7th, 2012

It’s time for Kerstin’s Holo Friday again! This time I have the beautiful Magia Negra from Jade to show you, from the Holográfico collection. This is the blackest holographic I have, and it’s absolutely stunning. Thankfully the sun was out when I was photographing this. I applied three coats for maximum coverage, but I think two can work as well.

I love how dark it looks, while still producing beautiful (and somewhat scattered) rainbows.

And here’s a shot of it in the shade:

It looks like a lighter grey without the holographic action going on.

I only intended to wear this during the weekend, but I couldn’t part with it so I had it to work for almost a week =)

It surely is black magic in a bottle!

Gina Tricot – Pretty Sweet and some China Glaze – Orange You Hot?

September 5th, 2012

Here are some more old photos that I’ve dug up. Gina Tricot is a soft apricot color with shimmer, I wore this back in July and I don’t remember much from the application, but the photos show that I had problems.. I think it’s three coats, and with an old Seche Vite top coat the result is anything else but even. Anyway, the color is really pretty and I’m definitely going to give it another try some time.

I was wearing this when I got my lovely summer neons from China Glaze, and decided to quickly slap on a coat of Orange You Hot? to see what it looked like. It’s a bright shimmery orange:

I really need to try this out on its own, the uneven base doesn’t really do it justice here.

NailArt Sunday – Wicked Baby Tiger

September 2nd, 2012

After seeing all the lovely nail art manicures that pop up every Sunday thanks to Lela’s NailArt Sundays, I thought I’d try to come up with something as well for this Sunday. The base is China Glaze Wicked Style, and I did a simple gradient with the light pink Dance Baby on the tips, using a sponge. When that was done I had no idea what to do next.  After some fails on my right hand I decided to just do some simple stripes with a black Ink Nail Art polish from NYX. One coat of Seche Vite, and then it was done!

I really like this, and I’ll be sad to see it go. But I’ll probably do something like this again in the future.

China Glaze – Wicked Style

September 2nd, 2012

Wicked Style from the Electropop collection is some kind of warm bright pink, and I had serious problems with getting the color to show up correctly in the photos. So what you see here is not 100% accurate. I applied three coats to get an even coverage, and then Seche Vite on top as usual.

In real life the color is a tad more lighter.

Anyway, it’s a very beautiful pink creme.

Jade – Fascinio Violeta

August 31st, 2012

Of course I had to show you one of the Jade polishes today. I decided to try Fascinio Violeta first, a gorgeous medium purple with awesome holographic rainbows. I went with two coats, and I was a little surprised that the polish behaved more like a “normal” polish than a holographic one that can leave you bald spots on the nails, so it was easy application with this.

So, just sit back and enjoy the ride:

If you want to know what it looks like without the rainbows I took a photo in the shade as well:

I’m in love!

A Fine Little Haul..

August 30th, 2012

These three babies came into my possession a while ago, I ordered them from llarowe:

L-R: Jade Fascinio Violeta, Jade Magia Negra, Ozotic 505.

Sminkan, the Jade polishes are all your fault! =)

Two holographics, and an oil slick in a bottle, aren’t they lovely?

Zoya Rica & Orly Emberstone

August 30th, 2012

This manicure is from June, I’m still wading through photos from these past few months. The main color here is the orange/coral/pink? Rica from Zoya, and as an accent on my ring fingers I’ve used the warm red Orly Emberstone. I paired these as I thought the golden/orange shimmer in Emberstone looked similar to Rica. I probably did three or four thin coats to get some nice depths in these polishes.

I’m not too happy with these photos, but I hope you can see some of their beauty. First a couple of shots in the sun:

And the last ones are in indirect light:

A closeup from the last photo:

The multi-colored shimmer in Emberstone is quite stunning, I love the mix of pink and gold shimmer.

New Lippies from Too Faced

August 26th, 2012

When I first read about the Too Faced La Crème Color Drenched Lip Cream, I knew I had to try them out. I really like creamy and moisturizing lipsticks, and there are quite some nice shades in the line. I ordered Nude Beach and Fuchsia Shock from BeautyBay.com. Unfortunately they didn’t arrive at the same time, and since I couldn’t wait I actually tried my Fuchsia Shock before the other one came, hence the weird photo montages.

First off, the packaging. They come in a cute pink package with the color label on top. The lipstick tube is a golden metal which feels quite heavy and luxurious.

The lipsticks themselves: Fuchsia Shock to the left, Nude Beach to the right.

These are swatches done on my hand. Nude Beach is a very nice nude shade, and Fuchsia Shock is a bright fuchsia shade.

I also swatched them on my lips:

Nude Beach will probably be my favorite lipstick for fall when I want a “My Lips But Better” shade.

Fuchsia Shock, what a gorgeous color!

I really like how smooth they are to apply, and they look really glossy on the lips. I don’t really know how to describe the scent, it makes me think of candy that has licorice and lemon flavor. The only downside with these lipsticks is that due to their nature they won’t stay on for that long, after a meal you definitely have to re-apply.

What do you think of these? Do you have any, or planning on getting them? I think I will end up with one of the coral shades as well, either Juicy Melons or Coral Fire.

Color Club – Electro Candy

August 22nd, 2012

I bought four of the polishes from the Electro Candy collection over a year ago, but for some reason I hadn’t tried any of them out yet. I figured they were a bit sheer, so under two coats of the pink Electro Candy I have two thin coats of the nude colored Pandora from Zoya. I didn’t get any good photos of Pandora on its own so that’ll have to wait until another time. Both of the polishes dried pretty fast.

Electro Candy is a gorgeous shimmery neon pink with a flash of light blue/turquoise shimmer. There was no sun that day so the photos look a bit dull:

The shimmer looks mostly silver here, but you can see the blue flash in the bottle.

The last photo is taken inside with flash:

This is such a gorgeous polish, why did I wait so long to try it?

Edit 24 August: Seems I got the date wrong when I published this post, it should have been the 22nd and not 8th, so it got buried with older posts.
