Glossybox – October 2012

November 7th, 2012

I’ve been subscribing to Glossybox since April this year, but I’ve never bothered to blog about it. But this time I thought I could make a post to show you what the contact lenses that I received looked like. This is what I got in my box:

Love & Toast Shower creme – Persimmon Plum. This one smells really fresh and nice, but I fear for the day when I’ll be dropping this bottle on my foot…

Nails Inc. Nail Polish in the color Jermyn Street – Not the most exciting color in the bottle, but I think I’ll like it on my nails once I try it.

BrilliantSmile WhiteningEVO Mouthrinse – A mouthwash can always come in handy!

Geisha Dark chocolate – Nom nom!

Beautybird Luxurious Exfoliating Soap Bar – I don’t normally use soap bars, and I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to try it myself or give it away. It does have a nice “soapy” scent.

Lenson Adore contact lenses in Dare Blue – These are supposed to enhance your natural eye color, and have an enlarging effect.

I don’t really use contact lenses anymore since my eyes are too dry, but I couldn’t help but try one out just to see what it would look like.

This is what the lenses look like in the packaging, they look kinda creepy floating around in there:

And this is how weird you’ll look when using only one lense:

It definitely makes the iris look bigger, but I didn’t find it doing much for the color more than making it darker.

This is how it looks up close:

It was fun to try  them out, but I don’t think I would purchase these even if I could wear contact lenses.

Do you subscribe to Glossybox? What did you get in yours?

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Boron

November 2nd, 2012

After being quiet for a few weeks I finally have something to show you for Skimmerskuggans Holo Friday. The second polish I tried from Cactus was the beautiful blue Boron. Unfortunately I can’t remember the number of coats this was, but I would guess three. There were some unsolved pigment pieces floating around in this one, but the few that I got on the nail was pretty easy to “melt”, there were only a few small dots left that you could notice.

As usual these shots were taken in sunlight:

I absolutely love the light royal blue shade, I don’t have any holo like this in my collection.

Ozotic – 505

October 31st, 2012

It’s Halloween today, but unfortunately I haven’t had time to do anything fun with either nails or makeup today. But I have an enchanting polish to show you at least. I started out with one coat of the black Camelot from A England (and a coat of Seche Vite), and then I applied one coat of Ozotic 505. And look at the magic that appeared! This is truly a multichrome polish, shifting between teal, blurple, purple, burgundy and copper.

Behold the beauty:

The final shot was taken in sunlight to show the shimmer:

I think I’m in love…

And with this I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

Boo! =)

China Glaze – Dance Baby

October 28th, 2012

Hi, it’s been a while.. I haven’t had time for blogging for quite a while but now I’m trying to catch up a little. It’s still October so I thought I would post something pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I happened to have some photos of Dance Baby from the Electropop collection. And I have to say that I’m in love with this cool bubblegum pink creme! It applied nicely with two coats, and it’s a gorgeous shade that stands out in my collection.

These photos were taken in natural light, with no sun:

Color Club – Metamorphosis

October 4th, 2012

I was only supposed to be missing in action for the weekend, but that turned into two weeks apparently. I have loads of work right now so I’ve fallen behind on the blogging at the moment. I’ll probably be behind on comments for yet another week, sorry!

At least I found some photos that I have already edited of Color Club Metamorphosis. It’s the only polish I have so far from the Take Wing collection, and it’s a beautiful teal shimmer with a tiny purple shift. When I had worn IsaDora Opposites Attract for a few days I decided to layer Metamorphosis on top. I think I only did one or two cats so that the magnetic pattern would still be noticeable.

And this is the result:

You can see a subtle green pattern shining through here.

In this angle some of the purple shift shows up.

I really liked this, the purple was more visible than I thought it would be, even if its far from being duochrome.

IsaDora – Opposites Attract

September 21st, 2012

I recently tried my first magnetic polish, am I late to the party or what? Opposites Attract is a green shimmery shade and is part of IsaDoras Magnetic Nails line. I love the color of this, and I really like the look of the magnetic effect. Though this was my first try so it could probably look better.

I started off with one coat that I let dry for a little while, and then I added a second one and held the magnet as close as I could for about 10-15 seconds. This is the final result with some top coat on:

The light and dark shifts are really beautiful.

I don’t know if the top coat made the pattern blurry or if it was like that before, but I still like how it looks. I think it looks like the shifts in a Tiger eye stone, and I love those!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend, I’ll be a bit busy so my replies may take longer than usual.

Models Own – Emerald Black with Extras

September 17th, 2012

I’m still digging around my old photos, and found this manicure from last year. Models Own Emerald Black is a very dark emerald green, hence the name. I’m pretty sure I did three coats. It’s definitely the least duochrome polish from the Beetlejuice collection, but you can get some blue to show in some angles.

Here you can see the blue tone in a more extreme angle. In most cases it will just look green, but that’s not so bad since it’s a beautiful green.

I decided to spice it up a little, so I added a coat or two of the flakie polish Nfu Oh 52, which has similar color shifts in green and blue. Beware of pic spam!

Here you can start to see some of the blue tones in the flakies and shimmer, in the next two photos with sunlight you can see even more of the blue shift:

This is me trying to do an Alizarine again, but my pinky just can’t pull it off.

Shame on me for not showing this earlier!

Holo Friday 1 Year Celebration!

September 15th, 2012

It has now been one year since Skimmerskuggan started up the Holo Friday tradition! And in celebration of that, here’s a collection of all the Holo Friday posts that I’ve put up over the last year. I decided to show a thumbnail from each entry, they are all linked to the original blog posts. I’ve started with the oldest ones first:

So unless I’ve missed something I’ve been posting 21 Holo Friday posts (there were two polishes in one post). Let’s see if I can do better for next year!

So which ones are you favorites? Being fresh in mind, the three latest are probably my faves at the moment, although LOL and QT are classics that I will never get tired of.

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Polonium

September 14th, 2012

Is it already Holo Friday again? Time really flies! I managed to snap a few photos of this beauty while there was still some sun last week. Polonium is a beautiful light turquoise shade, and is one of the four polishes that Cactus made for the Spectrum β collection. The holo effect is quite beautiful, and it shows up even in low lights indoors. I ended up with three coats of this. It was pretty easy to work with, though there was a little tendency to bald spots like with other holographic polishes. It dries a little matte which is also to be expected, so I added a coat of Seche Vite, mostly to increase wear time. I’ve worn this for five days now and it’s still going strong!

I had just filed my nails, that’s why it looks like tip wear on my index nail.

So what can I say? Thumbs up for this polish!

New IsaDora Polishes – Jewels of the Orient

September 9th, 2012

I ran across the new IsaDora polishes from the Jewels of the Orient collection yesterday, and in a hurry I decided to pick up two of the new polishes. I bought Beetle Green when it was first released, but I don’t think I’ve shown it before, so I let join the others for the photos.

L-R: Orient Express, Silk Road, Beetle Green. The last cap looks weird since there are glue traces left from a label when I bought it.

Orient Express is a beautiful deep red shimmer. It’s probably not the most unique color but for some reason I don’t have that many in that color range in my collection, so I thought it was worth getting.

Silk Road has a sheer dark blue base, and it’s packed with shimmer in what seems to be blue, gold and purple. I really like this one, and don’t have anything similar to it in my collection.

Beetle Green is a dark cool green, and even though the purple shift you see in the bottle isn’t visible on the nail, I still like this one.

Will you be getting any of the polishes from this collection? I’m also interested in the dark wine red Ancient Ruby, but I will check first if there are similar shades from China Glaze, as I really don’t like Isadora’s wide brushes..

You can see the whole collection on IsaDora’s site: http://www.isadora.com/se/news/trend-nails-autumnwinter-2012/
