Color Club – Tangerine Scream

Sunday, August 11th, 2013

How about an old goodie today? This is Color Club Tangerine Scream from the Electro Candy collection, which I think was released back in 2009. It was one of the first Color Club polishes I bought a few years ago, and I hadn’t tried it until now!  This is an orange neon with shimmer that looks a bit green in the bottle. When you wear it it mostly looks like silver shimmer but in some lights you can see the green shift. I really like how the shimmer softens the orange color, I feel that it makes it more wearable if you don’t want the neon to be too much in your face.

I was afraid this would be very sheer on its own, so I started off with Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat, and then applied three coats of Tangerine Scream. But I think it covered pretty well actually, there wasn’t  much of a VNL. As it’s a neon it dries a little matte, but I liked the effect so I skipped the top coat. Of course I bumped into something with my nails so I got a little dent, but it wasn’t that bad.

Let me tell you, it was not easy to get the color right on the photos. Here’s a shot in the sun:

Why do I wait so long to use gorgeous polishes like this?

Gina Tricot – Pretty Sweet and some China Glaze – Orange You Hot?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Here are some more old photos that I’ve dug up. Gina Tricot is a soft apricot color with shimmer, I wore this back in July and I don’t remember much from the application, but the photos show that I had problems.. I think it’s three coats, and with an old Seche Vite top coat the result is anything else but even. Anyway, the color is really pretty and I’m definitely going to give it another try some time.

I was wearing this when I got my lovely summer neons from China Glaze, and decided to quickly slap on a coat of Orange You Hot? to see what it looked like. It’s a bright shimmery orange:

I really need to try this out on its own, the uneven base doesn’t really do it justice here.

Color Club – Electro Candy

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

I bought four of the polishes from the Electro Candy collection over a year ago, but for some reason I hadn’t tried any of them out yet. I figured they were a bit sheer, so under two coats of the pink Electro Candy I have two thin coats of the nude colored Pandora from Zoya. I didn’t get any good photos of Pandora on its own so that’ll have to wait until another time. Both of the polishes dried pretty fast.

Electro Candy is a gorgeous shimmery neon pink with a flash of light blue/turquoise shimmer. There was no sun that day so the photos look a bit dull:

The shimmer looks mostly silver here, but you can see the blue flash in the bottle.

The last photo is taken inside with flash:

This is such a gorgeous polish, why did I wait so long to try it?

Edit 24 August: Seems I got the date wrong when I published this post, it should have been the 22nd and not 8th, so it got buried with older posts.

China Glaze – Beach Cruise-r & Sun-Kissed

Monday, August 13th, 2012

To be able to try as much neons as possible before I’m back to work I chose to use two of the Summer Neons polishes in one manicure, the purple/fuchsia Beach Cruise-r and the highlighter yellow Sun-Kissed. Sun-Kissed ended up with for coats on most nails, and Beach Cruise-r was two coats. I wasn’t really thinking about the thicker formula when I started applying it so it did pool a little here and there, but it looked OK in the end, except some VNL with Beach Cruise-r. It didn’t dry very fast, but I used Seche Vite and took it easy for about an hour before bed, and it did survive the night.

First photo with a bit of sun:

I couldn’t quite get the color to show up right for Beach Cruise-r, it’s slightly more purple than what it looks like here.

Next one is taken when it was cloudy:

And the last one with flash, where you can see more of the shimmer in Beach Cruise-r:

They’re both wonderful colors, Sun-Kissed is really a bright neon yellow with beautiful shimmer. Beach Cruise-r is a bit more shy, I would almost call it a work safe color even, as it’s not that super bright (but still beautiful!).

China Glaze – Surfin’ For Boys & I’m With The Lifeguard

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

As I wrote in my previous post I got my new polishes just before I was going away on a trip, so I decided that a couple of them could accompany me on that. I chose to wear Surfin’ For Boys on my tips, and I’m With The Lifeguard on my toes.

I found the formula to be a little thick, but I thought it looked OK after two coats. There was a tiny bit of VNL but it didn’t bother me at all. They dried to a semi-matte finish and I added a coat of Seche Vite on top.

Surfin’ For Boys is an insane neon coral shade with shimmer, I don’t have anything like it in my stash.

This shade was really hard to capture on photo! It’s a bright red coral, I think I got close enough on these photos.

And on to my toes. I try to keep them at a safe distance from you so you won’t get a foot shock =)

I’m With The Lifeguard is a shimmery green neon, and I think the color looks pretty accurate here:

A perfect color for your toesies!
