OPI – Can’t Let Go

September 18th, 2013

Yep, it’s been quiet around here again, I really have problems with finding time for my blog! But I did have time to find this beautiful gem among my unedited photos, the gorgeous OPI Can’t Let Go from the Mariah Carey collection. I think it has the perfect blue toned purple shade, and I absolutely love the textured finish on the Liquid Sand polishes. It has bigger hexagon shaped glitter in it as well as smaller glitter, and I think it makes it a little more interesting.

I can’t really remember how many coats I did, but I would guess three. When I first photographed it there was no sun so it looks a little dull:

But one day the sun decided to show:

Before I took it off I tried it with top coat on, and it looks fantastic with that as well, it really deepens the purple color.

I really need a bigger bottle of this one!

Blog Your Heart Out

September 17th, 2013

A few weeks back I was nominated for a Blog Your Heart Out award from Nailmanic and LeLack, thank you so much! I know I’m really slow with getting this published but I thought it was better late than never =)

blogyourheartout

The rules for this nomination are:
Answer 5 given questions and nominate 5 other bloggers with less than 100 followers. The nominees should also be told that they are nominated.

1. What/Who encouraged you to start blogging?
I started following a few beauty and nail polish blogs about four years ago, and I guess that sparked my own desire to show and write about my own experiences in the world of nail polish.

2. How do you choose what topic(s) to blog about?
That was pretty easy. I’ve been crazy about nail polish since I was a teenager, and since I’ve often gotten compliments on my nails and hands through the years I thought I would dare to show off my paws on the interwebz as well =) I do love makeup too, but I just don’t get around to blog as much about that as I’d like.

3. What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I’m quite fascinated by animals, and even dead ones. If I find a dead animal somewhere I might just pick it up and examine it if it hasn’t been torn into pieces. I guess a lot of people would find that macabre.. but that’s me.

4. What three words describe your style?
Geeky, black and weird!

5. What do you like to do when you’re not blogging?
I like to cuddle with my cats and fiancé, taking walks, photographing other things than my nails, watching TV series (a lot of sci-fi). I’ve also started to be more physically active as I need to loose a few pounds, and I think I’m finally starting to enjoy it.

Since I’m behind on my blog reading I’m not sure who’s already received this award, but here are my five nominees:

Gelic’ Nail Art
Kajalpennan
Make It Fab
Marinamake
Tennnails

Cactus’ Nail Polish – Thallium

September 6th, 2013

How about a gorgeous green polish for Kerstin’s Holo Friday? This is one of Cactus’ polishes which where on sale earlier this year, and I’m really glad I got hold of this. It’s not super holographic, but the bright lime green color just makes me so happy! The funny thing is, this is a color I wouldn’t have looked twice at a few years ago. I’m glad I’ve my taste has developed over the years so I can enjoy more colors on my paws =)

I applied four thin coats and it dried very quickly to a matte finish, so I topped it of with a coat of Poshé top coat.

Here are some sunny photos:

There’s still some minor VNL but it didn’t really bother me at all.

I wish you a wonderful weekend! I will try and enjoy the great weather outside, as it might well be the last weekend with summer temperatures for the season.

NailArt Sunday – Circuit Board

September 1st, 2013

Being a geek I just couldn’t miss out on Lela’s NailArt Sunday today, since the theme for this week is circuit boards. I wanted to do something a little different than the standard green circuit board, so I went for a blue version. The base is two coats of China Glaze Man Hunt, and the lines where made with L. A. Girl Funkadelic. The dots where made with China Glaze Millennium and Wet n Wild Black Creme. And let me tell you one thing, it’s not easy making straight lines with a dotting tool! I think I need some better equipment for nail art.. Anyway, this is what the manicure ended up looking like:

My fiancé was almost disappointed that I didn’t do my other hand as well so I could wear it to work tomorrow =) But I’ll think I’ll do a full version someday when I have time to do a better job with it.

IsaDora – Turquoise Crush & Purple Crush

August 26th, 2013

I’ve survived my first week back at work and so far it feels pretty good, I think I’ve been able to really unwind this Summer so I actually felt ready to get back to business for once. Now I just need to get back to blogging more regularly, that’s the one thing I can’t seem to get a grip on…

So, Monday means Blue Monday, which you can find at Nail Me from now on. This is the manicure that I wore at work last week, it’s two beautiful textured polishes from IsaDora: Turquoise Crush which I’ve used as the main color, and Purple Crush for my accent nail. Both of these polishes have beautiful silver glitter in them. Turquoise Crush needed three coats to be fully opaque, and Purple Crush only needed two coats.

The first two photos are taken in the sun. I can’t say that they make the polishes justice, they had a really beautiful sparkle that I couldn’t quite capture:

The next ones are taken in the shade:

I really love these, I might have to get more of the IsaDora Crush polishes =)

IsaDora – Blue Lagoon

August 20th, 2013

A while ago I showed you what IsaDora Blue Lagoon looked like with a coat of holo goodness on top. Here it is on its own, and it’s just as lovely like that. I’ve used two coats and then one coat of Seche Vite. The formula was really good and I am slowly getting used to IsaDora’s wide brush. Now this is a really happy blue color, I loved wearing this polish!

These photos where taken on a cloudy day.

The last photo is taken with flash to really bring out the bright blue color:

Sunshine Award – a little late…

August 20th, 2013

When I went through my drafts I found this little post that had been forgotten. The sweet Sminkan gave me a Sunshine Award a couple of months ago, and it seems that I didn’t get around to actually posting about it. I’m too lazy to write this post in both Swedish and English so I hope I’m excused =)

SunshineAward

The rules are the following:

  • Thank the person who gave you the award
  • Put the award badge on your blog
  • Share 7 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 5 or more blogs that have inspired you

First of all, thank you Sminkan! It means a lot to me since you’re one of the first bloggers that I started following a few years back, and it’s always a joy to read your posts and look at your wonderful photos.

So, here are 7 random facts about me:

1. I love the gothic Bleeding Edge dolls and figurines. I don’t have a big collection, but whenever the mood strikes me (and I have the money for it) I will order something from Ebay. They make the little goth girl in me happy =)

2. I’m insanely afraid of heights. My fear of spiders have gotten better over the years, especially since moving to a house, but I still can’t cope with ladders and other situations where I feel like I can fall to my death. This feeling occurs when my feet are about a meter above the ground, so I still have to work on that..

3. I don’t like cheese. I can  enjoy cream cheese and the more tasteless types of cheese on my sandwich, but when it comes to hot cheese sauces, or parmesan cheese I just want to throw up. Eww.

4. I’m really shy, but it’s slowly getting better. I try to push myself to meet new people whenever I can, but then we have that other thing that concerns actually talking to them =) I think my main problem is that I find myself boring and don’t have much to tell about my own life.

5. Cats are my favorite animal. No kidding? =) I have two wonderful tuxedo cats by the names Sisco and Lakrits (means licorice in Swedish). Sisco’s name is a mix between Cisco Systems (computer geekery) and captain Benjamin Sisko in the TV Series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (sci-fi geekery).

6. I absolutely love licorice! Sweet licorice, salt licorice, in all forms and shapes! It’s no wonder I named one of my cats after this tasty thing.

7. Stargate SG-1 is my top favorite sci-fi show. I just love all the main characters in that show.

When it comes to the nominating I’m pretty sure that most of the blogs I follow have gotten this award already. Anyway I can’t really choose so I nominate all you lovely bloggers out there that I follow, you’re all doing a wonderful job and are truly inspiring!

Illamasqua – Speckle

August 17th, 2013

Illamasqua Speckle is a gorgeous lavender colored polish from the Imperfection collection that came out earlier this year. There are both micro-glitter and bigger hexagon-shaped black glitter in it. I really like these types of polishes that look like speckled bird eggs, even if its glitter in them they’re still quite discrete. The glitter was distributed pretty evenly and I went with three coats as I usually do. I think I only did one thin layer of top coat, it looks like I would have needed some more to get a real smooth surface.

Let’s enjoy this beauty in the sun:

Color Club – Miss Bliss

August 16th, 2013

I found some old photos of this polish that I hadn’t posted yet, so here it is today for Kerstin’s Holo Friday. Color Club Miss Bliss is the pink shade from the Halo Hues collection that came out this year. The color isn’t very special or original at all, but the pretty rainbows makes it well worth having. I don’t remember how many coats I applied but I would guess three. I really like the formula on these polishes, there are no bald spots whatsoever!

Here it is in the sun:

201305_color_club_miss_bliss_2

And photo of it in the shade:

201305_color_club_miss_bliss_3

It’s a little deeper in the tone than Halo-Graphic from the 2012 Halo Hues collection, so if you don’t have any of those I would recommend this one.

On Monday I’ll be back at work, and I sure will miss being free all day long. Ah well, nothing lasts forever.. Except my love for holographic polishes =D

Color Club – Tangerine Scream

August 11th, 2013

How about an old goodie today? This is Color Club Tangerine Scream from the Electro Candy collection, which I think was released back in 2009. It was one of the first Color Club polishes I bought a few years ago, and I hadn’t tried it until now!  This is an orange neon with shimmer that looks a bit green in the bottle. When you wear it it mostly looks like silver shimmer but in some lights you can see the green shift. I really like how the shimmer softens the orange color, I feel that it makes it more wearable if you don’t want the neon to be too much in your face.

I was afraid this would be very sheer on its own, so I started off with Seche Ridge Filling Base Coat, and then applied three coats of Tangerine Scream. But I think it covered pretty well actually, there wasn’t  much of a VNL. As it’s a neon it dries a little matte, but I liked the effect so I skipped the top coat. Of course I bumped into something with my nails so I got a little dent, but it wasn’t that bad.

Let me tell you, it was not easy to get the color right on the photos. Here’s a shot in the sun:

The next two photos are in the shade:

Why do I wait so long to use gorgeous polishes like this?
