Yellow Fairy Dust

April 27th, 2011

This is what my Easter nails ended up like in the end, I added a layer of China Glaze Fairy Dust on top of Isadora Mellow Yellow for some extra bling.

Direct sunlight.

Some shade, you can see more of the colors in the glitter here.

And here’s a closeup of Fairy Dust in the bottle:

I’m really glad I finally got this polish, it’s perfect whenever you want some more action on your nails!

Isadora Mellow Yellow, And Happy Easter!

April 22nd, 2011

This is just a real quick post before I’m off to catch the train to where I’ll be spending Easter.  This holiday is one of the few occasions where I consider wearing yellow nails. So this year it’s Isadora’s Mellow Yellow, a light shimmery yellow. I still hate the wide brush, but I really like the color. This is three layers plus Seche Vite. It does not compliment my skin tone at all, but I don’t care!

In sunlight.

Happy Easter everyone!

Eyeko Punk Polish

April 21st, 2011

I got my first order from Eyeko a few weeks ago, and one of the polishes I bought was the pink Punk Polish. There is actually one thing that disappoints me about the color. In the bottle it looks exactly how i envisioned it, a true hot pink, but on the nails it dries to a slightly brighter and warmer tone. I guess that’s the neon properties at work as it does get a bit of a matte finish.

The formula is a little on the thick side, but it was fairly easy to get it even with two layers. I did get some bubbling but that was fixed with a layer of Seche Vite. Once I got used to what the color looked like on the nails I was in love, who can resist a bright neon pink?

Sorry for the sloppy work, I was in a hurry again..

I know this photo is dark and my hand looks kind of dead, but it does show how the color differs on the nail compared to the bottle.

Birthday look

April 17th, 2011

Well, actually this was the day after my birthday, but it was for my birthday party at least. As usual I was running late and I quickly grabbed my Naked palette to do a fast neutral look. To get some more color in I added som green to my lower lash line, but unfortunately you don’t see that much of the color in the pics.

Face
Meow – Pampered Puss foundation in Frisky Chartreux (I may just have found my match!)
Make Up Store – Blush Sugar Muffin lightly applied

Eyes

Urban Decay – Virgin on inner third of lid
Urban Decay – Sin on the rest of the lid and in crease
Urban Decay – Toasted in outer v

Yay pink nails!

The necklace is the Perky Goth necklace from Whimsy Beading by the way. You should check out their jewelry if you haven’t already, there are so many beautiful things to drool over!

OPI Purple With A Purpose

April 13th, 2011

When I saw Purple With A Purpose at ClawsInColor I knew I had to have it, I’m pretty weak for this kind of purple. And now that I got it, I can definitely say it’s my type of purple. If I only were allowed to wear one color on my nails for the rest of my life, it would be something like this. I’m not sure if you could call this a blurple, I don’t find it blue enough. On the other hand it’s not really red either, so I guess it’s just purple =)

I have to say that I’m not too fond of the wide brush that OPI has, it was a real pain to paint my pinky nail with this. Other than that the formula was OK, I ended up with three layers as usual. This was also my first try with China Glaze’s top coat Fast Forward. I have one thing to say about that one, it sure smells a lot! It’s too early to tell how it compares to my Seche Vite, but it seems to get the job done as well.

In daylight with no flash.

Taken with flash.

Full sunlight, the base color looks a little too red here. The shimmer seems to be a mix of pink and blue, and it’s so beautiful!

Beauty Tag

April 8th, 2011

I was challenged by Honi to do this beauty tag, since it’s in Swedish I will be bilingual today! First the original one:

2. Favoritconcealer?
Jag är ingen flitig användare av concealer (även om jag behöver det..) men det blir oftast Make Up Stores beiga Cover All Mix-penna, den är betydligt smidigare att jobba med än den vanliga concealern i burk.

11. Favvoläppglans?
Använder knappt läppglans så jag kan inte påstå att jag har någon favorit, men idag har jag faktiskt på mig Monroe a Go Go från Coastal Scents.

12. Favvoblush?
Jag använder nästan bara Sugar Muffin från Make Up Store, det är en trevlig rosa färg med lite diskret skimmer. Jag äger nog bara typ två rouge eller nåt.. =)

13. Vad tycker du om billigare “drugstore”make up?
Yay!

And here’s my translation of it in English:

1. What foundation are you using?
I’m using a mineral foundation from Meow Cosmetics, right now it’s the Flawless Feline formula in the shade Sleek Siamese. Unfortunately I’ve realized that the shade isn’t perfect, it matches my face but probably not the rest of me..

2. Favorite concealer?
I’m not an avid user of concealers (even if I need it..), but I usually go fore Make Up Stores beige Cover All Mix pencil, it’s a lot smoother to work with than their usual Cover All Mix in a jar.

3. What undertones do your skin have?
I wish I knew! I always thought I’ve been cool and pink, but that has only been true for my face, the rest of my body is more yellow/olive if I’m not totally mistaken. So now I’m trying to figure out what color I need to match all of me.

4. Your opinion on false lashes?
To apply false lashes is an art I haven’t really mastered yet. I can imagine it would be fun to wear to parties sometimes, but it’s nothing I’d do on normal weekdays.

5. Do you throw away your mascara after three months?
Kind of, I usually have some idea of when I started using it, and then I usually go by how the mascara looks and feels to determine when it’s time to change. I would never keep it for longer than six months.

6. What’s your favorite mascara?
I haven’t found my perfect mascara yet, but Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells is probably one of the best I’ve tried so far.

7. Favorite tools for application?
Brushes, and cheap ones at that.. =) I have a whole bunch from Coastal Scents for example.

8. Do you use a primer?
Urband Decay Primer Potion is a must for my eyes, I also use Lorea’l Smoothing Resurfacing Primer in my T-zone now and then when I have time for it.

9. Fave eyeshadow?
If I look at which one I use the most it’s the Brite Bird shadow Cream Cat, the perfect hilighter! Other than that it’s very hard to choose a favorite, there are so many!

10. Fave lipstick?
I use a lot of lipsticks, but right now my favorite is probably the moisturizing lipstick from Yves Rocher’s line Coleurs Nature, in the color Rose Alba.

11. Fave lip gloss?
I hardly ever use lip gloss so I can’t say that I have a favorite, but today I’m actually wearing Monroe a Go Go from Coastal Scents.

12. Fave blush?
I almost only use Sugar Muffin from Make Up Store, it’s a nice pink color with a subtle shimmer. I only own like two blushes or something.. =)

13. What do you think about cheaper “drugstore” makeup?
Yay! It doesn’t have to be crap just because it’s cheap. Price doesn’t always equal quality.

14. Have you ever considered taking makeup classes?
Nope, makeup is just a fun hobby for me, and it’s not like I have any talent or so anyway.

15. What’s the worst makeup failure in your opinion?
Wrong foundation color maybe? *guilty* Or unkept eyebrows? *guilty* Other than that I guess the worst thing is obvious fake tanning, and wearing a dark lip pencil with a light lipstick, eek!

16. Do you prefer neutral or colorful shades?
Colorful, but unfortunately there’s not much of that on the weekdays.. except for on the nails of course =)

17. Name one of your favorite makeup brands.
I’ll say Urban Decay then, they have a good primer, nice eyeshadows, and I love their eyeliners. Apart from that I usually stick to mineral makeup from miscellaneous indie companies.

Here’s a fresh photo of me, not looking too fresh, it’s been a hard week at work! I just wanted to show you the lip gloss I’m wearing, Monroe a Go Go, it’s a very nice pink!

You can click for bigger, but really, don’t.. =)

So who do I tag to do this? Anyone who feels they’re up to the task!

Depend 227 and some more layering

April 6th, 2011

I just couldn’t resist picking up Depend 227, it’s a lovely bright green turquoise with silver shimmer. Unfortunately I didn’t really get along with the formula, it was a little too goopy for my taste. I applied two layers and the result was a little uneven, but I was in a hurry when applying it so I could probably have done better than this. I also applied Seche Vite top coat.

I just love this color!

Then I felt like playing some more, so I made a gradient with the light blue turquoise Depend 221:

The colors may be a little off here but I think you can still see the effect.

Then I wanted to try my new CND Effects polish Amethyst Sparkle.

You can’t see much of the sparkle here, it was more obvious IRL. The bottle shows more what it looks like on the nails.

And to top it all of I pulled out my favorite Nfu Oh polish, #50:

This manicure was quite fun to do! I’m sorry I couldn’t get better photos than this.

Ahoy!

March 31st, 2011

This is the last one of the four polishes I have from the Anchors Away collection, Ahoy! I’ve really been missing some more color on my nails! Ahoy is a dark cool pink jelly with golden glass flecks in it, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s a little darker and cooler than I thought it would be, but that’s not a bad thing at all. I had a really hard time trying to capture the color, but I did some Photoshop magic to try and correct the color a little. This is my usual three coats + top coat (Seche Vite):

Outside in indirect light.

Direct sunlight.

In the shade I think.

This is a shot of the bottle where you can see the gold a little better, ont he nail it kind of sinks in. Click the photo to see a bigger version. Ahoy! is probably my favorite from this collection, but that wasn’t much of a surprise as I love shiny things and cool pinks!

Sunset Sail

March 26th, 2011

Here’s another polish from the Anchors Away collection, the pale peachy Sunset Sail with silver shimmer in it. I didn’t plan to get this one at first, but I was curious about what it would look like on me. I first tried it out on my toenails and asked my fiance what he thought: “It looks discolored”. That didn’t sound very encouraging… To be honest I wasn’t sure about it myself. But then I tried it on “for real” and I think I actually like it. My fiance still thought it looked ugly, but he doesn’t care much for polishes anyway so it doesn’t really count =) This is three coats plus one coat of Seche Vite:

Full sunlight. I feel that Spring is slowly approaching! The polish looks a little more saturated on the nails than what it looks like in the bottle.

I like the subtle shimmer that some of the polishes from this collection have. It makes it so much more interesting than just a plain creme.

This photo is taken with flash.

What do you think of this one? Gorgeous or ugly?

Tip wear and some layering ideas

March 21st, 2011

Before I took Pelican Gray off I wanted to try it as a base for some layering, as I thought a light grey would be perfect to try some different things on. This was actually after 13 days of wear, with three coats of Pelican Gray and one coat of Seche Vite. I had a lot to do recently and I just didn’t have time for my nails. Not too bad huh?

I guess this proves how little I do… =)

Anyway, I picked a few random polishes from my stash to try out:

Left to right: Max Factor Dazzling Blue, OPI Not Like The Movies, China Glaze Frosty, Nfu Oh #50.

I see now that the Nfu Oh bottle is facing the wrong way, but at least you can admire the pretty lacing on the back =)

And here they are layered in the same order on my nails, one coat each:

Not Like The Movies would probably need another coat to look good. Dazzling Blue is looking a bit uneven and would probably have needed an extra coat as well. The flakies looked okay, but it wasn’t the best pairing I’ve seen. My favorite combination of these is probably Pelican Gray + Frosty, as it turned out a beautiful light silver.
