A England – Dragon

February 24th, 2012

Sminkan and Annie wanted to see Dragon from A England when I showed my latest hauls, so that’s what I have for you on this Holo Friday. It’s a gorgeous mossy and muted green color, with a pretty decent holographic effect. You can also see a coppery flash to it in certain angles which makes it even more interesting.

Update: I forgot to write how many coats I used! Two coats, and it was a dream to apply! I then topped it off with Seche Vite and it dried pretty quick.

It was a bit cloudy when I started my photo session, but then the sun eventually showed up to reveal the beauty of this Dragon.

The next photo is taken while the sun was hiding a little:

And then I took a couple with flash to show more of the holographic properties:

I love dragons, and I do love this polish as well! I was trying to find a photo of a dragon and I remembered having this one on the site (if you check out the photos link in the top menu). Let me present to you my masterpiece: The Chicken and the Dragon.

Some Urban Decay Stuff

February 19th, 2012

While going through the photos on my computer I found some swatches that I made sometime before Christmas, I guess it’s not too late to show them. I had ordered some Urban Decay stuff from BeautyBay.com.

Hey, what’s that? A butterfly? *sniff sniff*

Once he realized it wasn’t a real one and moved along, I could take this photo:

It’s a Pocket Rocket lip gloss in the shade James, the Mariposa Palette, and the 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Flipside (Finally! I’ve beeen craving that one for years..)

The palette is packaged in a metal tin with the Urban Decay logo and a butterfly on it (Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish). When you open it up it looks like this:

Click on the next photo if you want to enlarge it:

And then we have the swatches, in the sun and in the shade. Click on the photos to enlarge them.

Row 1 L-R: Rockstar, Gunmetal, Skimp, Infamous, Wreckage
Row 2 L-R: Haight, Money, Mushroom, Spotlight, Limelight

The reason I bought this palette was mainly for the shades Haight, Money, Mushroom, and Skimp. Wreckage and Infamous are also very nice shades. Spotlight and Limelight can be a bit tricky to apply as they are a little gritty, but I’ve worn Spotlight a few times without problems.

On to the lip gloss, James. If you’re not familiar with the Pocket Rocket lip glosses they all have different guys on them (James is the Emo guy), and if you look at them in a certain angle they’re undressed to their undies.

It’s so tacky it’s fun! The applicator is a tiny brush, which I think works pretty well.

I swatched it on the back of my hand together with the Flipside pencil.

James is a cool pink gloss with tiny blue/purple shimmer in it, and Flipside is a gorgeous teal color.

Here’s a shot of James on my lips.. Hmm, I hope my fiance isn’t reading this =)

It’s quite a sheer gloss, so I like to wear it on top of a more covering lipstick or stain, I think it makes the shimmer more visible that way as well. And then we have the scent is reminiscent of creme brulee, and being the sweet tooth that I am I love it!

My Latest Nail Polish Hauls

February 18th, 2012

I’ve had a few polishes drop down in my mailbox lately, so I thought I’d show you the beauties. First up is an order from Transdesign, where I ordered five polishes from China Glaze’s spring collection Electropop, a couple of polishes from the 2011 Christmas collection Let It Snow, and then some odd ones.

The Electropop polishes:

L-R: Dance Baby, Gothic Lolita, Sunshine Pop, Gaga For Green, Aquadelic

These colors make me happy to look at!

And the rest of the polishes:

L-R: China Glaze Snow Globe, China Glaze Tinsel Town, Orly Emberstone (Mineral FX),  Color Club Alter Ego

And then we have the next order, four polishes from A England’s latest collection called The Legend, which consist of beautiful polishes where most include holographic particles and even some duochrome flashes. I’m pretty sure I will end up with the whole collection eventually, they look so pretty!

L-R: Ascalon, Dragon, Saint George, Bridal Veil

I hardly know where to begin, but I’m leaning towards the A England polishes at the moment. What do you want to see?

Models Own – Sophie’s Pink

February 14th, 2012

This is just a quick post before me and my darling go and nom some good stuff in front of the TV! I wanted to do a special manicure for Valentine’s Day, but it didn’t get more special than a pink creme polish and a nail sticker with some hearts. And of course the battery is dead in my usual camera, so you have to make do with the photos from my other camera.

This is two to three coats of Sophies Pink from Models Own, a hot pink creme that I really like. After the Seche Vite had dried I put on a nail sticker and then added another coat on top of that. The stickers are from a brand called OPQ, which I found while shopping around in Estonia a couple of years ago.

So here are a couple of crappy photos under the kitchen lights:

How about some extra kitty love?

Color Club Antiquated

February 9th, 2012

Yay, I managed to do a post about a non-holographic polish! Here’s Antiquated from Color Club’s Foiled collection, it’s a champagne colored foil. I’m pretty sure I used two coats, and it dried fairly quickly.

The first photo is with the sun shining in through the window:

It has a beautiful shimmer in the sun.

And one in indirect light:

Here it looks more matte, and I like that look as well.

I wasn’t really sure if this color suited me, but I quite liked it anyway. But to be honest I got a bit tired of it after a few days, I want more colors now!

Color Club Revvvolution

February 3rd, 2012

I’ts been another hectic week at work, and here I am again on Holo Friday. I really need to squeeze in some more posts between all the holos! I don’t have a new manicure to show you today, but I found some unedited photos of Color Club Revvvolution that I wore a few months back. Hello long nails!

I’ve worn this one for a few times, and so far it’s one of my favorites in my collection. It’s a dark grey shade with a scattered holographic effect. I know there are different versions of Revvvolution out there and I’m not really sure which one I have. But it sure is pretty! I don’t remember how many coats I put on, but probably two or three. It’ nice to work with and dries pretty fast.

First a couple of photos in the sun:

Here’s a shot in indirect light:

And the last one is under my desk lamp:

And with this I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

China Glaze GR8

January 27th, 2012

Wohoo it’s Holo Friday again! This time I’m showing you the yellowish golden colored GR8 from the China Glaze OMG collection. I’m not really that into warm golden shades, but if it’s holographic it’s hard to resist!

This is three thin coats that dried super quickly as the others in this collection, and no top coat.

I’m glad the sun wanted to show up for a while so I could take these photos.

The holo effect doesn’t seem that strong as with some of the other polishes, it could be that it blends in more with the base color. It still looks pretty, though.

It’s not a favorite from the collection, but I’m still glad to have it.

China Glaze Traffic Jam

January 25th, 2012

I’ve been doing some organizing lately, I’ve been sorting through photos on my hard drive, updated my little nail polish list (that I will probably publish on the site some day), and realized I have over 70 untried polishes. I have a lot to do! =)

So here are one of my untrieds that I got last year, China Glaze Traffic Jam from the Metro Collection. It’s a dark berry pink colored creme, and it’s quite beautiful. In some lights it almost looks like it leans a little towards purple. It may not be very special, but as I don’t really have a lot of cremes in my collection I really enjoy it. The formula is a little thick, but it was still pretty easy to control and I did two coats and then topped it with Seche Vite.

My camera got a bit confused by this shade, it ended up bright red in all the photos! I did some Photoshop magic to correct them, and I hope I got it fairly right.

Both photos are taken with the sun shining outside the window. I think the last one shows the color best, it is pretty cool toned.

Favorite Polishes & Manicures of 2011

January 13th, 2012

It may be a little late, but I wanted to go through the posts of last year and list my favorite polishes of the year. It’s quite a mix of new and old polishes, cheap and pricey. The images link to the original posts if you want to take a closer look at something.

So, here they are, in no particular order, my top 10 favorite polishes that I’ve worn in 2011.

China Glaze – Skyscraper:

Gorgeous gorgeous blue glitter.

OPI – The Show Must Go On:

A beautiful duochrome with a great name.

China Glaze – DV8:

Teal and holographic, can it get any better?

Chanel – Péridot:

My most expensive polish so far, but I totally think it was worth it.

Lovie – No 93:

A nice and cheap red/coral polish, it’s perfect for summer.

KleanColor – Metallic Pink & Metallic Purple:

Two in one image here, these are so beautiful, although the pink one did leave a stain.

Orly – It’s Not Rocket Science:

This one had me totally mesmerized, it’s a fantastic duochrome.

China Glaze Ruby Pumps:

I finally got my hands on this red classic!

Isadora – Jaded:

A beautiful creme polish. And oh my, I’ve almost forgot what my nails looked like a year ago!

And then I also wanted to list a few of my favorite manicures as well, so here are 5 of my favorite manicures containing more than one polish.

Space nails:

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise… Oh sorry, I got lost there for a while =) I’m too lazy to write out what polishes that where used, you can find it in the original post.

Nfu Oh #48 on top of KleanColor Metallic Black:

Mmm… Flakies… Seems we’re gonna see a lot of this in 2012, and I welcome it!

KleanColor Mango and some Konad with China Glaze Harmony:

When I first did this manicure I wasn’t sure if it was awful or just really cool. In the end I leaned towards the latter =)

China Glaze White Cap on top of IsaDora  Dazzling Ocean:

It doesn’t look that good in the photos, but it was lovely IRL! I will definitely try out more combinations with White Cap this year.

Nfu Oh #50 on top of Orly Galaxy Girl:

More flakies, I love this combination! Nfu Oh #50 is probably my most used flakie polish.

I was hoping to have time to do a holo Friday post for you, but you will have to do with this old crap for now =) I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Holo Friday with China Glaze Let’s Do It In 3D

January 6th, 2012

The sun was out today, so it was perfect for showing off this beauty from the China Glaze Kaleidoscope collection, the silvery grey holographic Let’s Do It In 3D. I applied four coats and it dried quickly as most holos do. I think this one will become one of my favorite scattered holos, it’s just perfect!

And now, some pic spam:

I also took a photo inside to show what it looks like without the rainbow  colors:

I hope to get my hands on a few more polishes from this collection, I love the ones I have so far!
