Eerie Asylum – A Quick (non)Halloween Look

October 31st, 2011

I really love Halloween, and had some big plans for doing a fun look, but that didn’t go too well. I had zero inspiration, so to at least do something I picked a few shades from Meow Cosmetics Dance of Death collection. I hardly ever use dark sparkly shades like these, but my, are they gorgeous! I didn’t do such a good job with it though, I’m not used to using Pixie Epoxy  so I think I made a bit of a mess so I couldn’t blend all properly. Ah well, I think it looks cool at a distance =)

Products used
Too Faced – Shadow Insurance
Fyrinnae – Pixie Epoxy on the lids as a sticky base
Meow Cosmetics – Asylum all over lid, except inner corners
Meow Cosmetics – Eerie in outer v and in crease
Meow Cosmetics – Spellbinding on browbone and inner corners, and blended into Asylum
Lumene – Blueberry Curl Mascara on upper and lower lashes
Viva La Diva – Mix & Match Eyebrow Color, medium brown shade used to lightly fill in eyebrows
Urban Decay – 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Lust along outer half of lower lashline (with Eerie on top)
Urban Decay – 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Zero along upper lash line
Rimmel – Soft Kohl eyeliner in Pure White lightly applied on waterline

Happy Halloween!

Sorry! And Double Holo Post

October 27th, 2011

Nope, I’m not dead, I’ve just been really busy lately and haven’t had time to take care of my little blog, or to even read all the lovely blogs out there. I miss you! I will probably still be busy for some time, but I wanted to get this posted at least.

To try and make it up a little I thought I would give you two China Glaze holos at once: Octa Gone Wild and He’s Going In Circles, both from the Kaleidoscope collection. When I got these two darlings in the mail I didn’t know which one to try out first, so I just applied one on each hand, problem solved!

Octa Gone Wild is a light purple color, and He’s Going In Circles is a cool light green. It’s a scattered holo effect in these, which look more coarse then the linear holos from the OMG collection. I applied three coats of each which dried very quickly, and I didn’t use base or top coat. I don’t mind it looking a little matte, but if I wanted to keep the manicure for a while I would probably have used a top coat.

First out is Octa Gone Wild:

Full sunlight. It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Next photo is taken in the shade:

It looks more like a purple with silver shimmer.

And then we have He’s Going In Circles:

I think the holo effect looked a little better in real life than in the photos.

And the last one in the shade:

I will probably never own the whole Kaleidoscope collection, but I’m glad I got these two at least, they’re wonderful!

Some Layering On Trendsetter

October 8th, 2011

Can you make China Glaze Trendsetter  look more beautiful? I wanted to find that out so I picked out a few polishes from my stash that I thought would be interesting to try on top of it.

L-R: China Glaze White Cap, Max Factor Dazzling Blue, CND Effects Amethyst Sparkle, Color Club Neon White(?), Steel Tropica Sea

The last polish is an oldie from H&M, do anyone remember those?

And here are the results. I apologize for pre cleanup pics, I just seem to mess up quickies like this so I thought I’d take the photos as soon as possible.

Color Club Neon White. I have no idea what they mean by neon in the name, it’s mostly just a sheer pearlescent shimmer. It adds a very pink/purple glow to Trendsetter. It’s not really visible in this shot, but you can see it further down in this post.

China Glaze White Cap. Depending on how thick you layer this you get a lighter base color, full with yellow/golden sparkles.

Max Factor Dazzling Blue. I love how this turned out! Sure, I did a sloppy job but if you do it properly I think it can look gorgeous.  You get more of a blue/grassy green shade that shifts a little to pink in certain angles.

CND Effects Amethyst Sparkle. This combination keeps the base color of Trendsetter, but adds a purple shimmer to it. I quite liked this one as well.

Steel Tropical Sea is an iridescent blue/lavender color, with flashes in pink. It creates quite an interesting shade on top of the olive green base. It’s too bad the brush strokes are so visible. This polish is one of my oldest, it’s probably from the late 90s.

And here are a couple of photos with all of them together:

Thumb to pinkie: Color Club Neon White, China Glaze White Cap, Max Factor Dazzling Blue, CND Effects Amethyst Sparkle, Steel Tropica Sea

Do you like any of these combinations, or do you think I’ve ruined the beauty of Trendsetter? =)

China Glaze Trendsetter

October 8th, 2011

This color isn’t really my cup of tea.. But I still wanted to try a fugly polish for once, so I decided to get this one anyway. As you all probably know Trendsetter is from China Glaze’s fall collection Metro, and is a yellowish olive green with golden shimmer. The formula was very easy to work with, I only went for two coats but if I were to keep the manicure on for longer I would probably have gone for a third. On top of that I applied China Glaze Fast Forward.

The color actually seem to suit my coloring, and it didn’t look quite as bad as I thought it would.

Outside without sun. Please ignore my non-moisturized fingers.

In sunlight. The golden shimmer really makes this polish more interesting.

With flash.

I was thinking if it was possible to make this one look better with some layering, I’ll show you what I did in a separate post.

What do you think of this polish? I thought I would hate it but ended up liking it a bit anyway, so I will probably wear it again in the future.

China Glaze Oxidized Aqua

October 4th, 2011

When I got Oxidized Aqua, a light turquoise shimmery crackle, I wanted to try it out at once. So I applied it on top of the dark turquoise/blue/teal colored Color Club Emerald Depths. I also applied China Glaze Fast Forward on top.  I quite like this combination, it’s both edgy and subtle at the same time.

Photos are taken outside.

Are you sick of crackle manicures yet? Being a shimmer whore I can’t help but fall in love with all the shimmery crackle polishes that have been released lately.

Color Club Emerald Depths

October 1st, 2011

When I made a comparison with some teal/aqua polishes Emerald Depths got some attention, and I thought it was time to show a full manicure with it. Unfortunately it doesn’t look it’s best here, I had cleaned the house before I took the photos, and you know what that can do to a polish!

Anyway, this is three coats plus Seche Vite top coat.

It’s a blue toned teal shimmer, and I really like this color.

Last photo is taken inside with flash:

I wasn’t so careful while applying it so I got some visible brush strokes, especially on the middle finger, but I don’t think it’s looks too bad.

Make Up Store Britta

September 30th, 2011

It’s another fun Holo Friday with Kerstin! Say hello to Britta, my first polish from Make Up Store. It’s a light pink holo, and it’s quite lovely! Well, apart from the bald spots you get if you’re not smart to use a top coat as a base and in between layers. Anyway, I ended up with four coats, and the sun peeked through the clouds every now and then so I could get some good shots:

The base color looks lighter on the nail than in the bottle.

The next one is taken in the shade, where it looks more matte, still with a slight holo effect:

And last, but not least, holo overload!

Now I’m off to have some “Fredagsmys”! In English that would be.. ehm.. Friday cuddle? That may sound naughtier than it is.. =)

Zodiac Theme – Pisces Look

September 24th, 2011

Purity is having a Zodiac theme going and today it’s time for Pisces. When I think of Pisces, fish and the color blue pops up, so that’s what I went for in my look. I envisioned my eye as the fish with the tail out in the corners. It was a quick look I made after washing off the eye makeup I wore for work, so my skin doesn’t look too good. It ended up a very soft look, I was considering using a really dark blue for the fish shape but I kinda liked the soft and “blurry” look.

Face
Meow – Pampered Puss foundation in Frisky Chartreux (or whatever’s left of it…)

Eyes
Too Faced – Shadow Insurance
Nyx – Jumbo Eyeshadow pencil in Milk applied on lower waterline, and blended on inner half of lid
Meow Cosmetics – Birdsong on inner two thirds of the lid, and inside of the tails
Meow Cosmetics – Sleeping In on outer third of lid
Meow Cosmetics – Dolphin in crease, contour of the fish tail, and under lower lashline
Everyday Minerals – Floating Feathers on brow bone, inner corners, and applied on top of Bird Song, and under lower lasline
Lumene – Blueberry Curl Mascara on upper and lower lashes
Viva La Diva – Mix & Match Eyebrow Color, medium brown shade used to lightly fill in eyebrows

Lips
MNY – My Tube Gloss in 686 (A light minty green shimmer)

I apologize for the weird coloring in the photos, I haven’t really got acquainted with my new compact camera yet.

And a sleepy looking close-up:

It’s in no way a masterpiece, but it was fun to do and I finally got to use some of my blue shadows, I usually stay away from them as I think they clash a little with my eyecolor.

Holo Friday With Nubar Reclaim

September 23rd, 2011

Kerstin at Skimmerskuggan has started up a Holo Friday series, and posting holo polishes every Friday. Today I finally managed to get something up for the theme. This is my first Nubar polish, and a gorgeous one at that! Reclaim is a beautiful medium grassy green with a good holographic effect, and was quite easy to apply.

I was expecting some guests when I decided to put this one since the sun was showing itself, so I slapped on two quick coats which dried almost instantly, went out on the balcony to take a few pics and then the guests arrived. So this was a real quick one!

Isn’t it wonderful?
