Space Nails

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Wow, I’ve been really bad at updating the blog lately, and also keeping up with all the blogs out there. There’s been a lot going on both at work and at home, and the darkness doesn’t really make it better when it comes to taking photos. But today some sun came through so I could take these pics of a space themed look. I’ve seen manicures like this before, last one was at Annamax, and since I’m going to a sci-fi convention this weekend it felt like the right thing to do =)

The base is three coats of Eyeko Cosmic, a black polish with tiny holographic glitter in it. Then I went crazy with a sponge and the following polishes: Isadora Mellow Yellow, Color Club Hot Like Lava, Color Club Foil Me Once, Orly Lunar Eclipse, and some Color Club Electronica. I didn’t really have a plan with it, I started with the yellow and then added some more colors next to it. After that I topped it off with OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle and a coat of Seche Vite. Now that I look at the finished result, I think it more looks like space puke or something, but I still like it.

Some pictures in various degrees of sunlight:

And the last one is taken with flash:

I don’t know if this is holographic enough for holo Friday, but at least it’s sparkly!

China Glaze TMI

Friday, November 18th, 2011

It’s Kerstin’s Holo Friday again! And this polish was on my nails a couple of weeks ago or so, so it’s not fresh for today. Of course the sun disappeared behind some clouds when I was going to photograph this one, but some of the holo effect is still visible. This is TMI from China Glaze’s OMG collection, and it’s some kind of warm coral shade. I think this one will be used a lot during summer, it feels like a summery shade.

The first two photos are taken with a cloudy sky:

The last photo is taken with flash, to show more of the rainbows:

I really like this one! I applied three coats, and didn’t have any problems with dragging.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Quick Holo Friday with Milani Digital

Friday, November 4th, 2011

For once I give you an all fresh manicure that hasn’t even dried yet, two coats of the pink holographic polish Milani Digital, on top of Color Club Hot Like Lava. I haven’t used Digital on its own yet, but I think it would probably look quite a bit lighter then. With this combination the hot pink Hot Like Lava darkens it down, and I think it looks pretty good like this, too.

And of course since there’s no daylight now I had to take these photos with flash under the bedroom light, ugh.. I have to find better ways to photograph now.

It has a pretty good holo effect even in dim lights, it would probably look fantastic in the sun.

I wish you all a wonderful Friday!

Update November 5th: Sun pics!

The indoor photos weren’t that far away from these, you see slightly more of the holographic effect here. But I have to tell you, it looks more beautiful in real life!

Sorry! And Double Holo Post

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Nope, I’m not dead, I’ve just been really busy lately and haven’t had time to take care of my little blog, or to even read all the lovely blogs out there. I miss you! I will probably still be busy for some time, but I wanted to get this posted at least.

To try and make it up a little I thought I would give you two China Glaze holos at once: Octa Gone Wild and He’s Going In Circles, both from the Kaleidoscope collection. When I got these two darlings in the mail I didn’t know which one to try out first, so I just applied one on each hand, problem solved!

Octa Gone Wild is a light purple color, and He’s Going In Circles is a cool light green. It’s a scattered holo effect in these, which look more coarse then the linear holos from the OMG collection. I applied three coats of each which dried very quickly, and I didn’t use base or top coat. I don’t mind it looking a little matte, but if I wanted to keep the manicure for a while I would probably have used a top coat.

First out is Octa Gone Wild:

Full sunlight. It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Next photo is taken in the shade:

It looks more like a purple with silver shimmer.

And then we have He’s Going In Circles:

I think the holo effect looked a little better in real life than in the photos.

And the last one in the shade:

I will probably never own the whole Kaleidoscope collection, but I’m glad I got these two at least, they’re wonderful!

Make Up Store Britta

Friday, September 30th, 2011

It’s another fun Holo Friday with Kerstin! Say hello to Britta, my first polish from Make Up Store. It’s a light pink holo, and it’s quite lovely! Well, apart from the bald spots you get if you’re not smart to use a top coat as a base and in between layers. Anyway, I ended up with four coats, and the sun peeked through the clouds every now and then so I could get some good shots:

The base color looks lighter on the nail than in the bottle.

The next one is taken in the shade, where it looks more matte, still with a slight holo effect:

And last, but not least, holo overload!

Now I’m off to have some “Fredagsmys”! In English that would be.. ehm.. Friday cuddle? That may sound naughtier than it is.. =)

Holo Friday With Nubar Reclaim

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Kerstin at Skimmerskuggan has started up a Holo Friday series, and posting holo polishes every Friday. Today I finally managed to get something up for the theme. This is my first Nubar polish, and a gorgeous one at that! Reclaim is a beautiful medium grassy green with a good holographic effect, and was quite easy to apply.

I was expecting some guests when I decided to put this one since the sun was showing itself, so I slapped on two quick coats which dried almost instantly, went out on the balcony to take a few pics and then the guests arrived. So this was a real quick one!

Isn’t it wonderful?

KleanColor Holo Orange On Top Of Sun Orange

Monday, August 15th, 2011

So, the reason I wanted to show you Isadora Sun Orange first is because I later paired it with KleanColor Holo Orange. I figured this polish was quite sheer so I just added one coat on top of Sun Orange. The base color of Holo Orange took away some of the yellow in Sun Orange and made it a slightly deeper shade of orange. And wow, is this gorgeous or what!

Fortunately the sun was shining outside so I could get some nice sunny photos. I wouldn’t really call this holographic, it’s more like holographic glitter particles in a colored base, but it doesn’t make it less beautiful! Prepare for some picspam!

It was really hard to capture all the colors, but they’re there.

And to really show all the colors I took a couple of photos out of focus:

I definitely want more of these holo polishes!

L8R G8R

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

I haven’t had time to read any blogs for a while, so when I finally got back to it this week I fell right into Sminkans holo week, and a lot of other blogs have picked up on the theme. I’m actually wearing a holographic polish now so I thought I’d show it on the last day of the holo week.

China Glaze L8R G8R is from the now hard to find collection OMG!, and is a light green holographic. I’m usually not very fond of yellow-based greens, but thought this one would be nice to have. And when I finally saw it on my nails it was instant love! I applied three coats and had no problems with bald spots, it behaved very nicely. It also dried quickly as the rest of polishes in the collection, so no need for a top coat. And the holo effect is superb!

In full sunlight.

This photo is taken with flash.

A blurry photo in the shade to show more of the base color.

Bonus pic with kitty!

Yellow Fairy Dust

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

This is what my Easter nails ended up like in the end, I added a layer of China Glaze Fairy Dust on top of Isadora Mellow Yellow for some extra bling.

Direct sunlight.

Some shade, you can see more of the colors in the glitter here.

And here’s a closeup of Fairy Dust in the bottle:

I’m really glad I finally got this polish, it’s perfect whenever you want some more action on your nails!

DV8

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

I love teal. I love holos. I love China Glaze DV8. Do I need to say more? Okay I have few more things to say about it =) This is yet another polish from the OMG-collection as you probably all know already. Two coats were enough and I topped it with Seche Vite. It dried quite quickly as the rest of the OMG polishes. Unfortunately I didn’t have any sun to photograph in but I think I managed to capture some of the holo effect anyway.

Bling closeup!
