Evil Eyed Goblin

October 7th, 2010

I felt like doing a dark look, and pulled out some of Meow’s Halloween collections. I’ve mainly used pigments from the Halloween Zombies collection, but also Dance of Death and Friday the 13th. When it comes to the colors I’ve used plum shades on the lids, and a dark green/teal in the crease.

Here’s what I’ve used:
Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Nyx – Jumbo Eye Pencil Black Bean smudged on lid
Meow – Goblin (Zombies) on entire lid except outer third
Meow – Evil Eye (Zombies) on outer third of the lid
Meow – Zombie (Zombies) in the crease and along lower lash line
Meow – Spellbinding (Dance of Death) as highlight on the brow bone
Meow – Broken Mirror (Friday the 13th) on top of Zombie in the crease to blend out, and in the inner corner of my eye
Nyx – Jumbo Eye Pencil Cottage Cheese in the inner corner of my eye
Urban Decay – 24/7 Eye liner in Zero on upper lash line
Isadora – Inliner kajal in Blonde on lower water line
Lancome – Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara

Photos are taken with flash. I hope you like it!

I love Halloween so I’ll try to do some more looks this month, and hopefully a little more interesting than this one.

China Glaze Ingrid

October 3rd, 2010

The first polish I’ve tried from the Vintage Vixen collection was Ingrid, and I would call this a medium brown color with gold shimmer. This is actually the only brown polish I have so far, but I really  like it! I applied three layers, if you’re better than me to get it even you can probably get away with just two. I also applied Seche Base and Seche Vite top coat.

Photo taken in daylight.

With flash. Here you can see more of the golden shimmer. It’s quite subtle but it gives this polish that little extra.

China Glaze Awaken

October 2nd, 2010

Awaken is from the Romantique Collection, and is a beautiful grey (frosty?) metallic. This applied like a dream and I went for two coats (I normally go for three excluding base coat). And for this manicure I used Seche Vite top coat for the first time! I’ve never really understood the need for a good top coat, but I think I’m starting to get the point now =) I thought I put on too much, but it dried nice and quick, and I made sure to wrap it around the edges since I’ve read that it may cause some shrinking of the underlying polish.

Taken in daylight. It looks a bit blue here, but it is really a neutral grey tone.

Meow’s Pleasures

September 27th, 2010

I love Meow’s Pleasures collection, and especially the Simple Pleasures. So many beautiful and soft colors to choose from! The shadows are for sale until September 30th, so if you haven’t checked these out yet its definitely time to do so. I did two quick looks with this collection, one on each eye.

So here you have the schizophrenic me:

Without flash.

With flash.

The purple eye was done with this:

Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Meow – Barefoot (Simple Pleasures) on the entire lid
Meow – Karaoke (Simple Pleasures) on outer half of lid and in the crease
Meow – Funky Dance (Simple Pleasures) in outer v
Meow – Bubble bath (Simple Pleasures) on brow bone
Urban Decay – 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Lust on upper lash line
Urban Decay – 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Gunmetal on outer half of lower lash line
Isadora – Inliner kajal Blonde on water line
Lancome – Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara on upper lashes
Claudia – Wonderlash Mascara on lower lashes

The green look on my left eye was made using this:

Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Meow – Sale! (Simple Pleasures) on the entire lid
Meow – Soft Porn (Guilty Pleasures) in the crease and outer v, and lower lash line
Meow – Bubble bath (Simple Pleasures) on brow bone
Everyday Minerals – Smokey as eyeliner on upper lash line
Isadora – Inliner kajal Blonde on water line
Lancome – Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara on upper lashes
Claudia – Wonderlash Mascara on lower lashes

Boy do I need to practice more on photographing my eyes..

Wild At Heart

September 22nd, 2010

I think I first saw this polish at MakeupMyLack some time ago. I decided to get the polish, and after trying it out for the first time I was in love! This is the second time I’ve worn it and the love is still there =) It’s a holographic purple, and it sparkles in all kinds of colors in sunlight! It’s a great formula and you can get nice coverage with two coats.

In the shadow you don’t see much of the holo effect.

Direct sun, do you see all the pretty colors? This one also shows more of the red shade that this purple has.

A little closeup of the bling.

Punk with added bling

September 18th, 2010

Another excellent polish from L. A. Girl, Punk from the Rockstar collection. A dark blue color full with shimmer. It has some duochrome action going on as well, it shifts a bit to purple in certain angles. It’s quite subtle, but If you look for it you’ll definitely see it! I think I applied four coats to get a real depth in it, and it was fairly easy to work with.

As you can see it’s very glossy, no top coat was used here.

Hopefully you can see some of the purple in the second photo (click thumbnail for larger image!).

Also here you can see a hint of purple to the left.

After wearing this for a few days I felt like doing something more with it, so I pulled out a Depend polish that’s just been sitting in my drawer for a year without being used. The number is 155, and it’s a sheer pink jelly, with silver glitter and flakies in it.

Even more duochrome! The flakies change color between salmon pink,  yellow, and green. I think you’d get a similar result with Nfu Oh 48.

So what do you think? I think it was a pretty fun combination.

First EOTD

September 13th, 2010

I thought I’d start out small with my first EOTD (Eye of the Day), hence the small photos =) It’s a pretty neutral makeup with a little bit of color.

Here’s what I’ve used:
Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Everyday Minerals – Good China  on the lid
Mad Minerals – Love on outer half of lid, but doesn’t really show
Aromaleigh – Imperial in the crease
Brite Bird – Cream Cat on browbone
Urban Decay – 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil in Lust on upper lash line
Claudia – Wonderlash Mascara
Viva la Diva – Mix & Match Eyebrow Colour

Graffiti Subway Green

September 11th, 2010

Once upon a time Max Factor released some crackle polishes, named Nail Mosaics, and I tried the blue one. This was over 10 years ago so I have no memory of what more colors there were. Anyway, I do remember that this polish was crap! It was sheer and pretty flaky so it didn’t stay on very well. I probably only tried it once and then it went to rest in a shoebox. This is what the polish looks like now:

It’s all dryed up into big chunks, I saved the bottle because it looks quite cool, it’s better like this than on the nails =)

Anyway, when I heard about the new Isadora Graffiti polishes that used the same concept I was a little skeptic. But I picked up “Subway Green” because I wanted to try it out. And wow, these are sooo much better! It’s a thick polish and obviously dries quickly, so you have to be fast when you apply it. I applied it on top of China Glaze QT with no top coat:

Please excuse the mess and tipwear, I’d had QT on for over a week by this time. It dries a little matte, but I like that look. And I have to say I’m quite impressed that it doesn’t need a top coat in order to stay on!

The thumb doesn’t look quite as good as the others, I think I didn’t get enough polish on the second brush stroke.

I thought this would be just a plain creme color, but do you see the tiny shimmer in it? I have no idea if it’s just this color or if the other colors have it as well.

What a QT

September 11th, 2010

This is the third polish I’ve tried from the OMG-collection, and it’s probably one of my favorites. I like my hot pinks =) Application was pretty much as the rest of them, there’s a risk of bald spots if you’re not careful, and go over the same area twice with the brush. I ended up with three layers which I usually do.

In sunlight. Yep, the nails are shorter since the accident from the last post..

I used my pretty cat Lakrits as a background for this. Taken with flash inside, but it’s a little dark.

Oh Fashionista!

September 6th, 2010

Fashionista from H&M is one of my favorite purple polishes at the moment, so I decided to put that on. But it had gone a little thick and I totally messed up my nails. What to do? Well, why not save it with some flakies! Said and done, I chose Nfu Oh #50 which is a purple based jelly with turqoise flakes in it. It’s fairly easy to get an even coverage of the flakes. A couple of them ended up over the edge of the nails, but you can just cut them off.

Isn’t it just lovely?

After I took these photos it was cleaning time, and as you all know this involves a big risk of nails flying..

.. And I killed my thumb nail. So from here on my nails will look a little shorter, as I like to keep them even in length.
