Layering with Depend – 2033 Ocean Blue

August 9th, 2013

This manicure is actually what I have on my tips right now for once. I’ve been wearing IsaDora’s Blue Lagoon for a couple of days and for Kerstin’s Holo Friday I decided to add a coat of Depend 2033 Ocean Blue.  Blue Lagoon is a bright light blue, and with the more dimmed blue color of Ocean Blue it became a nice sky blue shade. I think I’ll stick to using the holographic polishes from Depend for layering as they are quite sheer.

Thankfully the sun has been out today so I could get some nice photos of it:

I absolutely love this combination even if it’s not super holographic.

I wish you all a lovely weekend! I still have one week left of my vacation, so I can take it easy for a few more days before reality catches up again…

A England – Tess D’Urbervilles

August 7th, 2013

It seems like I didn’t just take vacation from work, but also from this blog. I’m probably the worst blogger out there, but I don’t really care about that =) With the absolutely fantastic weather that’s been lately in Sweden I’ve just taken the opportunity to enjoy life out there, in real life =)

Anyway, I have a dark vampy beauty for you today, which of course is green for Green Wednesday at Vacker & Underbar! When I chose a polish for my first week of vacation you would think I would go for something fun and bright. But nooo, I picked one of the darkest shades I have. Tess D’Urbervilles from A England’s collection Gothic Beauties is a very dark green shimmer. In dim lighting it mostly looks black but I think it’s quite easy to see the green shade in normal indoor lighting. I applied two coats plus Poshé top coat, and there were no problems at all with the formula.

My camera had some troubles with focusing in the sun, but I think you can get an idea of how beautiful it is:

The next two photos are taken in indirect light outside, it’s gorgeous even then:

Oh boy, do I have a lot of blog posts to wade through on Bloglovin’ now..

A England – Princess Sabra

June 28th, 2013

Yay it’s time for Skimmerskuggan’s Holo Friday again! Princess Sabra is one of the holographic polishes from A England’s the Legends collection. It has the additional name Tristam Eyes (the creator Adina’s cat), and I can really see this being the color of a cat eye. is color. I would describe the color as a olive toned beige/gold, and it’s a nice discrete color. I applied two coats of Princess Sabra, if I were to wear it longer than a day I would probably have gone for three coats. Unfortunately the brush in this bottle was really wonky so the application wasn’t the best.

Lets take a look at it in the sun:

201305_a_england_princess_sabra_2

The holographic effect wasn’t visible at all when I photographed it in the shade:

201305_a_england_princess_sabra_3

I took another photo by the computer to try and catch the slight holographic effect indoors. It’s grainy and the color is a bit off, but I think you get the idea of what it looks like:

201305_a_england_princess_sabra_4

In normal lighting the holographic effect gives the color some extra depth, and it’s really quite beautiful. It’s a really nice polish, the only bad thing was the brush, but that can happen to the best of brands.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend! I hope I can get to edit some photos for the blog, I have loads of stuff that I still haven’t posted and it just keeps piling up.

Cirque – Ophelia

June 25th, 2013

Another couple of weeks of silence.. I really can’t keep up can I? Anyway, it’s time to show you Cirque Ophelia. It’s a beautiful  periwinkle blue hex glitter in a clear base. It also has shimmer in it, I’m not quite sure if it’s the shimmer that makes this polish look iridescent, it seems to have a bit of a pink shift to it. What you see on the photos are two coats of Ophelia on top of one coat of the black creme Camelot from A England. The formula was really nice, it was fairly easy to get an even layer of glitter and it wasn’t goopy at all. I didn’t use top coat since it was only a quick swatch, but I imagine one layer of top coat would be enough to make it smooth.

This is what Ophelia looks like in indirect light:

Here it is in the sun:

How about a close-up?

I love the shimmer in it as well, it makes it more interesting than if it had just been the glitter. I’ll definitely be wearing this again, maybe with another base color.

Illamasqua – Nomad

June 12th, 2013

Today I have a real beauty to show you on Karin’s Green Wednesday. Nomad from Illamasqua is an absolutely gorgeous jade green creme. I love how it’s soft and bright at the same time.  This is three coats plus Poshé top coat, it was a very nice formula on this one.

I photographed it in the evening without sun. I’m not sure how accurate the color is, I think it looks a tad too cool in these photos.

I will definitely be wearing this one again!

Besides the polish, I just wanted to show you an outfit I wore with Nomad. Please excuse the lousy background and weird pose. It’s hard taking a photo of yourself when the cord is only a meter long. Lets just say that I don’t have any plans on becoming a fashion blogger anytime soon.. =)

This lovely sweater is from Desigual, I love it since there are so many colors in it to match with nails and makeup. You probably can’t see it in the photo, but there is some green in it that I thought matched Nomad pretty well. And yes, I also have sneakers with hot pink leopard pattern!

Jade – Energy

June 7th, 2013

I’m finally joining in on Skimmerskuggan’s Holo Friday again. Aaaah, that feels good.

I’ve actually had this Jade polish for a while, but once again I was foolish to try and save it for a special occasion. After seeing it at LeLack a few weeks ago I decided it was time to give this one a go. And as I expected I was not disappointed. Energy is a gorgeous teal holographic polish, and what you see below is three coats without top coat.

It’s a wonderful color with wonderful rainbows. If you like teal and holographic polishes I can highly recommend this polish if you don’t already have it!

Wee I won second prize!

June 6th, 2013

Edgy Polish had a swatch competition last week, and I was among one of the six winners =) I feel honored as there were a lot of good entries. Earlier this week the prize arrived, which was three Glitter Gal polishes:

I’m really looking forward to trying these out!

And here is the photo that came on second place, I just changed it to my usual format:

This is the beautiful Cirque Ophelia, I’ll make sure to make a separate post about that one.

Essence – Oh My Glitter!

June 6th, 2013

And here we go again, yet another period of silence from me. It’s been a hectic period at work (and still is), plus the garden has been in need of maintenance. That means not much time left for blogging.

Anyway, here’s what I’m wearing on my nails at the moment, Oh My Glitter! from the Essence Colour & Go line. I fell in love with this polish when I first saw it at Nihrida. It’s a medium warm purple  with a beautiful pink and blue shimmer. With a name like that you would think that it’s a glitter polish, but it’s not. Not sure what they were thinking there… It’s a bit sheer but I thought it was enough with three coats plus Poshé top coat. The formula was great, it’s a bit thin but I prefer that to thicker ones. I did get some shrinkage, I don’t know if that would have happened on its own or if it was because of the top coat.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any good photos of this one, I came home late from work when the sun already had disappeared from our garden. So the first two photos are in the shade, and the third was me chasing the last rays of sun that was shining through the foliage of the nearby forest.

Do you see the pretty shimmer? You mostly see the pink shimmer and it’s really beautiful. And I love how the cap on the bottle is matching the actual nail polish.

I really wish Essence was sold here in Sweden! Ah well, at least I have a reason for visiting southern Europe again.. =)

OPI – Get Your Number

May 13th, 2013

How about a Blue Monday? It’s finally time to show you my first experience with the Liquid Sand finish from OPI. This is the blue Get Your Number from the Mariah Carey collection. When I got the polish I already had the blue holo Over The Moon on my nails, so I was lazy and just applied two coats of the polish on top of that. Looking at the photos I think it would have been better if I’ve used three coats, I’ll make sure to do that when I try the others.

So what do I think of the textured finish? I really like it, I like the matte finish and I don’t mind the texture. I actually couldn’t stop feeling my nails when I wore it =)

The holographic glitter particles are really beautiful in the sun.

201304_opi_get_your_number_2

Of course I had to try it with top coat on as well, and with that I think it was more obvious that I should have applied an extra coat of GYN, as the base looks a little streaky here and there.

201304_opi_get_your_number_3

I also took a crappy photo under my desk lamp, but I thought it showed off the glitter quite well:

I’m looking forward to trying more polishes with a textured finish, the Pixie Dust polishes from Zoya look really tempting for example, and I’ve seen that IsaDora will be releasing some as well.

Nailart Sunday – A distasteful manicure

May 12th, 2013

LeLack has been having a theme this week on her blog called “Gräsliga veckan” – which you could translate to terrible/horrid/ugly week. I managed to dig up this awful thing I did a few months ago. I was doing nail art with the theme food, and thought it would be a good idea to do a hot dog manicure.

I think the photo speaks for itself:

201301_hot_dog_manicure

Can it get any uglier? The base is China Glaze Street Chic, and then I’ve made the mustard and ketchup stripes with Miyo Sunny and Eyeko Saucy Polish. Let’s just say that this manicure didn’t stay on for long.. =)
