China Glaze – Beach Cruise-r & Sun-Kissed

Monday, August 13th, 2012

To be able to try as much neons as possible before I’m back to work I chose to use two of the Summer Neons polishes in one manicure, the purple/fuchsia Beach Cruise-r and the highlighter yellow Sun-Kissed. Sun-Kissed ended up with for coats on most nails, and Beach Cruise-r was two coats. I wasn’t really thinking about the thicker formula when I started applying it so it did pool a little here and there, but it looked OK in the end, except some VNL with Beach Cruise-r. It didn’t dry very fast, but I used Seche Vite and took it easy for about an hour before bed, and it did survive the night.

First photo with a bit of sun:

I couldn’t quite get the color to show up right for Beach Cruise-r, it’s slightly more purple than what it looks like here.

Next one is taken when it was cloudy:

And the last one with flash, where you can see more of the shimmer in Beach Cruise-r:

They’re both wonderful colors, Sun-Kissed is really a bright neon yellow with beautiful shimmer. Beach Cruise-r is a bit more shy, I would almost call it a work safe color even, as it’s not that super bright (but still beautiful!).

Models Own – Aqua Violet

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Wow. That’s the one word that describes how I feel about this polish. As the name implies, Models Own Aqua Violet is a duochrome that shifts between an aqua color and purple. And the color shift is pretty strong! I wore this in January so I don’t remember any details, but I think I applied four thin coats and then Seche Vite.

Now, let’s just sit back and adore this beauty:

IsaDora Icy Lilacs and Marzipan

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

This is a manicure from a few weeks ago. I wanted to try both of these polishes from IsaDora’s Pearls of Passion collection, so I decided to go for Icy Lilacs as my main color, and use Marzipan as an accent color on my ring finger nails. Icy Lilacs is way more beautiful in real life, it’s a light purple packed with turquoise shimmer that really makes this polish pop. It was pretty sheer so I applied four coats, but it was worth it. Marzipan was a lot more opaque so I went with my usual three coats. It’s a really pretty light green, I guess you could call it a warm mint green. I don’t think you can see it so well on the photos, but there is some (green?) shimmer in that one that’s more subtle.

If you’re wondering what that dot is on the index finger nail, I think I got a bubble in either the polish or the top coat.

Close up. The turquoise shimmer is more apparent in real life, and it’s gorgeous!

I really liked this manicure, it was light and felt good for Spring.

China Glaze – Gothic Lolita

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

I bought this polish since it’s purple, and I just couldn’t resist it with such a name, I have a little weak spot for all things gothic =) Anyway, this is a medium purple with a discrete shimmer in what I think looks blue/purple. You don’t see much of the shimmer on the nails, but it gives the polish some extra depth. The shade varies a little between a warm and a neutral/cool purple depending on the light. The formula is a little thick, but it was still pretty easy to apply with two coats for full coverage, and as usual I finished it with Seche Vite.

This photo is taken outside without sun.

In the sun it looks warmer (duh..), and you see more of the shimmer here.

I took this one with flash, it’s easier to see the blue shimmer particles in this one.

It’s a very nice purple that I’m sure I’ll use again!

A England – Lady of the Lake

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Just a quick post today with something I found from November last year: the dark holographic purple Lady of the Lake from A England. I don’t really remember how many coats I applied, but probably two or three. It’s really quite beautiful in the sun:

In the shade it mostly looks like a normal purple shimmer:

I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!

China Glaze – LOL

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

So, it’s time for Holo Fri.. Saturday? I haven’t had time to try a new holographic polish this week, but I managed to dig up some old photos from October last year. I’ve shown the purple holographic LOL from China Glaze once before on the blog, but that was a long time ago and with not so good photos. I don’t remember how many coats I did, but probably three or four, And I don’t think I had any major problems with dragging.

And thankfully I managed to capture this one in the sun:

I’ve probably worn it for a few days here, hence the tip wear. It’s a dark cool purple, the sun probably made it look a bit warmer here.

This is one of my favorites from the OMG collection, purple and holographic can never go wrong!

Orly – Out Of This World

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

I’ve had this polish for quite a while but I didn’t try it out until about a month ago. Out Of This World is one of the polishes from Orly’s Cosmic FX collection, and it’s a dark purple polish with a cool toned gold duochrome shift. I’ve applied four thin coats + Seche Vite, since the base is a bit sheer I think it gives it that extra depth to do one more coat than usual.

The duochrome effect isn’t that strong, but I think you can still see it in the photos. All of the photos are taken in daylight:

I think this one is a real beauty even if it’s not the star of the collection. It’s dark and vampy, and the lighter color shift makes it quite interesting. I think Cosmic FX may be one of my all time favorite collections!

Sorry! And Double Holo Post

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Nope, I’m not dead, I’ve just been really busy lately and haven’t had time to take care of my little blog, or to even read all the lovely blogs out there. I miss you! I will probably still be busy for some time, but I wanted to get this posted at least.

To try and make it up a little I thought I would give you two China Glaze holos at once: Octa Gone Wild and He’s Going In Circles, both from the Kaleidoscope collection. When I got these two darlings in the mail I didn’t know which one to try out first, so I just applied one on each hand, problem solved!

Octa Gone Wild is a light purple color, and He’s Going In Circles is a cool light green. It’s a scattered holo effect in these, which look more coarse then the linear holos from the OMG collection. I applied three coats of each which dried very quickly, and I didn’t use base or top coat. I don’t mind it looking a little matte, but if I wanted to keep the manicure for a while I would probably have used a top coat.

First out is Octa Gone Wild:

Full sunlight. It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Next photo is taken in the shade:

It looks more like a purple with silver shimmer.

And then we have He’s Going In Circles:

I think the holo effect looked a little better in real life than in the photos.

And the last one in the shade:

I will probably never own the whole Kaleidoscope collection, but I’m glad I got these two at least, they’re wonderful!

Some Konad Practice

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

While I was wearing KleanColor Mango I wanted to practise some more on my non-existent Konad skillz, so my right hand ended up with some black stars:

They’re far from perfect, but with time I may be confident enough to do a real manicure with stamping. I used Konad’s special polish in black, and stamped with the M3 plate.

I was also curious about how it would work to stamp with a normal polish, so I chose China Glaze Harmony for my left hand. Being a kitty lover I tried out the leopard pattern on plate M57. As it didn’t cover my longest nails I improvised some french tips with with a sponge.

Please excuse the mess around my nails, the light was slipping away so I had to hurry up to take some photos.

I’m not really sure if it’s absolutely awful or a little cool. But it was fun to do!

KleanColor Chunky Holo Purple

Friday, August 19th, 2011

I decided to layer Chunky Holo Purple on top of KleanColor Metallic Pink and Metallic Purple, and I think it looked better on top of the purple. The pink and purple both got a deeper and warmer tone by Chunky Holo Purple. I have to say that I’m not too happy about these pictures, the two coats I applied got a bit messy (especially on my ring finger), and it didn’t help much with a top coat. I guess I’ll have to give this polish another try in the future.

Inside in natural light. Here you can see some of the yellow/orange/green tones in the glitter.

Some pink tones here.

And since I’m not happy with these photos I give you a random cat photo as well, with our little Sisco in an apple tree:
