Sterling Silver Gradient

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

I’ve been tempted to try out gradients for a while, so while I had L.A. Girl Graphite on, I got the idea to try making a gradient with Sterling Silver from the same collection. The tool I used was just an ordinary yellow dish sponge, which I cut out a small triangle from. I put some of the polish on a piece of paper, and then I dabbed the sponge in that and onto the tips of my nails until I was satisfied with the look. Maybe it’s not much of a gradient, but I think it’s a pretty cool effect.

I hadn’t done any cleanup yet when I took these photos, so there’s some polish left on my fingers.

I only included this photo because of the gorgeous guy in the background (Lakrits)!

L.A. Girl Graphite

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Here’s yet another polish from L.A. Girl’s Metal collection, which I’ve only had good things to say about. And I’m not stopping now! Graphite is a dark grey foil with silver shimmer, and I love it in every way! The formula is fantastic and easy to get along with. I applied two coats and topped it with Seche Vite.

I took these photos under a construction light. It’s not the best lighting, but I’m trying out some options in my home while I wait for the sun to come back.

Do you have any L.A Girl polishes? What do you think of this brand? It’s definitely on my top 5 list when it comes to polishes.

My Conclusions

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

So I’ve gone one week now with a more squoval (mix of square and oval) shape on my nails, as opposed to the round shape that I’ve always had before. I thought it would be fun to write down my experiences of this  life-changing transformation from round to squoval, so here are some comparisons:

Looks: Personally it’s a tie, but other people seem to prefer a more square form.
Handling necklaces: Squoval. It’s so much easier to open and hold a clasp now, I don’t have to ask my fiance to do it for me.
Scratching fiance’s back: A tie.
Pulling out hairs from my leg (Yes, I’m gross): Round. I have troubles getting a grip on tiny things now, I guess I will need a new technique for that.
Killing evil zits (Yep, still gross): Leaning towards round. To be honest I didn’t actually kill any lately. But if one mocks me I’m not always so forgiving…
Durability: The following photo is from a nail break with round tips:

Not such a bad break, most of the nail is still there. And here’s from a break last week:

The nail was more square when it happened, I just filed it down a bit here. This is a bad break that made the nail come loose from the nail bed. Guess which one I think is the winner here? Well, I guess I can’t blame it on the shape based on one nail fail, but I’ll do it anyway =)

Conclusion: Wanna be less gross? Be square!

Jaded and a little experiment

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

This polish has been left untested for a couple of months, and yesterday I thought it was about time to use it. Isadora Jaded is a blue toned green creme, and it’s very beautiful! I went for three layers as usual and topped it with Seche Vite. I hope you can live with my awful photos, it’s just grey and dark today and I had to turn up the ISO on the camera.

Isadora Jaded

I also want to show you what my right hand looks like now. I’ve always had my nails filed in a round shape, and I thought I would try a more squoval shape to see what it’s like. I have no idea if I’ve done it right though, I would probably need to file them down even more but I’m not ready to do that just yet. I’m thinking of having them like this for a week and see if I can survive. My first impression is that I feel a little handicapped =) Anyway, this is what it looks like:

Do you have any preference when it comes to nail shapes?

Pimping Up Galaxy Girl With Nfu Oh #50

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

I wanted to play with some flakies again, so I put a layer of Nfu Oh #50 on top of Orly Galaxy Girl. I really like the result!

The flakes don’t stand out that much in this mani, but it gives it something extra.

The orange you see in this photo is just a reflection from a lamp.

I also used this Nfu Oh polish on top of H&M’s Fashionista, which you can see in this blog post.

Galaxy Girl

Friday, January 7th, 2011

This is my very first polish from Orly, Galaxy Girl from the Cosmic FX collection. I’m really loving the rubber cap! It’s a little hard to describe the color, I would say it’s a dark reddish purple with purple and teal glass flecks in it. The blue/green duochrome effect is very visible in the bottle, but not as much on the nail. Still, it’s a very nice polish, I get a vampy/gothic feel about this one. I ended up with four layers, and topped it with Seche Vite.

Photo taken outside in the shade.

In direct sunlight you can see the beautiful shimmer, but the duochrome effect is almost gone.

I need more Cosmic FX!

OMG, Happy New Year!

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

I had some idea that I would blog like crazy during my Christmas holidays, but I ended up playing the 10 day trial of World of Warcraft instead… oops! Anyway, here’s a late post to show my nails at New Year’s Eve. My choice fell on the silver holographic OMG, I love it! I didn’t use any base or top coat, and this is three layers.

China Glaze OMG

The sun was nice to shine upon little Sweden for once!

Sorry for the mess on my fingers, I hadn’t done a cleanup yet.

Ah, look at all those pretty colors!

I wish you all a wonderful 2011! I’m still new to the blogging world, but I hope to get a little more active this year, and maybe a little giveaway will pop up along the way as well.. so stay tuned =)
