Bloody Halloween Nails

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Since it’s Halloween I thought I’d post a little idea I had for a bloody Halloween manicure. And since I feel like scaring you all to death I will start by showing you this… my bare nails!

Ah teh horrorz! That’s what you get for always wearing nail polish..

Anyway, I wanted to do a bloody manicure so I used these things:

A blood red polish (Depend no. 19) and a nude polish (Mavala Reno). The pin is used as a dotting tool, as I don’t own a real one.

So what I did was applying one coat of the nude polish, i probably would have needed more coats since my nails still look yellow. But hey, it’s scarier this way =) Then I put a few drops of the red polish onto a piece of paper, and then dipped the pin in it to paint  along my cuticles. I randomly dragged out some of the polish to make it looks like dripping blood.

And here’s the result!

It was really quick and easy. I know the photos suck, but the sun is now hiding from Sweden..

And with this I wish you all a Happy Halloween!

My first Morgana haul!

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

I’ve been eyeing Morgana Minerals for a while, and after the name switch to Morgana Cryptoria I finally placed a small order, consisting of six eyeshadow samples and two vegan lipsticks. So here’s my crappy try at photographing the products:

I just had to show the business card, since it’s got some Poser art on it. I doodle with that myself and I love seeing works of it outside the Poser community =)

I’ve been quite interested in trying Morgana’s lipsticks, and the choice fell on the two new shades Cotton Candy and Otherworldly. I also ordered the following eyeshadow samples (same order as in pic):

Cryptic, Harbinger, She Creature
Shining Armor , Winifred, LE#7

I haven’t tried these yet, but at first sight they look lovely!

What I do have is some more photos of the lipsticks. First some close-ups (click for bigger version):

These are taken with flash, and Otherworldly looks a little lighter than it really is here.

Cotton Candy is a medium pink with silver sparkles in it, I love it! This is a shade that’s pretty much “work safe”.

I’ll be wearing this a lot!

And then we have Otherworldly, which is a dark purple with blue sparkle in it. On the site it says that this has a grape scent, but I associate it with some kind of incense, like the scent in a random new age store. Anyone know what I mean? =) Anyway, here’s what it looks like on my lips:

This photo is taken on another day in different lighting (ah I look creepy!)

The lipsticks don’t dry out my lips, which I was a bit afraid of since I have pretty dry lips to begin with. So thumbs up for that!

L.A. Girl Millennium

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Here’s another fantastic polish from L.A. Girls Metal collection, the purple Millennium. Like Chromium Green this is a metallic kind of shade with silver micro glitter. It’s a beautiful medium purple and applies really well. This is also an old NOTD so I don’t remember how many coats I did =) Probably two or three.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I can’t wait to try out the rest of the polishes I have from this collection.

Zoya Ki

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

I wore Zoya Ki a few weeks ago, but I haven’t got around to fix the photos until now. This is my first Zoya polish, and I’m in looove! This is a shimmer polish with a beautiful duochrome effect, the base is a dark purple and changes into green in certain angles. I would say the colors are a little dusty, but in a good way! When I first put it on I didn’t see much of the green, it does need the right lighting for it. But I think I managed to capture it in these photos. I have no top coat on, only Seche Base and probably three, four layers of the polish (my memory sucks!). I’m pretty sure thought that I didn’t have problems with the drying time.

On my index finger you can see a third shade, dark brownish something.

This photo shows some more of the green shade. It was so cool to have one hand look purple, and the other green at times =)

I really need some more duochrome polishes in my collection, I have Zoya Adina which I haven’t tried yet, but I think it will be a favorite, too. Do you have any favorite duochromes?

Maleficent

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

Purity is having a theme with Disney Villains right now, so I thought I’d try one of them. I have to confess that I haven’t seen Sleeping Beauty, but after discovering this cool character I think I have to see it =) So this is my interpretation of Maleficent. I was going for a dewy green skin, but that failed miserably! I just look seasick and oily =)

I’ve used the following for this look:
Nyx – Jumbo eyeshadow pencil Milk all over eyelid and up to eyebrows
Coastal Scents – Hi light Green pigment all over face and on lids.
Coastal Scents – Purple color from the 88 matte palette in crease and up to eyebrows
Mad Minerals – Love on top of the CS purple near the crease
Isadora – Dark purple from eyeshadow duo “Frosty lilacs” on top of the CS purple
Yves Rocher – Luminelle lipstick (don’t know the exact name)
Lancome – Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara
ELF – Liquid eyeliner
Viva la Diva – Mix & match eyebrow  color

Evil Eyed Goblin

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

I felt like doing a dark look, and pulled out some of Meow’s Halloween collections. I’ve mainly used pigments from the Halloween Zombies collection, but also Dance of Death and Friday the 13th. When it comes to the colors I’ve used plum shades on the lids, and a dark green/teal in the crease.

Here’s what I’ve used:
Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Nyx – Jumbo Eye Pencil Black Bean smudged on lid
Meow – Goblin (Zombies) on entire lid except outer third
Meow – Evil Eye (Zombies) on outer third of the lid
Meow – Zombie (Zombies) in the crease and along lower lash line
Meow – Spellbinding (Dance of Death) as highlight on the brow bone
Meow – Broken Mirror (Friday the 13th) on top of Zombie in the crease to blend out, and in the inner corner of my eye
Nyx – Jumbo Eye Pencil Cottage Cheese in the inner corner of my eye
Urban Decay – 24/7 Eye liner in Zero on upper lash line
Isadora – Inliner kajal in Blonde on lower water line
Lancome – Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara

Photos are taken with flash. I hope you like it!

I love Halloween so I’ll try to do some more looks this month, and hopefully a little more interesting than this one.

China Glaze Ingrid

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

The first polish I’ve tried from the Vintage Vixen collection was Ingrid, and I would call this a medium brown color with gold shimmer. This is actually the only brown polish I have so far, but I really  like it! I applied three layers, if you’re better than me to get it even you can probably get away with just two. I also applied Seche Base and Seche Vite top coat.

Photo taken in daylight.

With flash. Here you can see more of the golden shimmer. It’s quite subtle but it gives this polish that little extra.

China Glaze Awaken

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Awaken is from the Romantique Collection, and is a beautiful grey (frosty?) metallic. This applied like a dream and I went for two coats (I normally go for three excluding base coat). And for this manicure I used Seche Vite top coat for the first time! I’ve never really understood the need for a good top coat, but I think I’m starting to get the point now =) I thought I put on too much, but it dried nice and quick, and I made sure to wrap it around the edges since I’ve read that it may cause some shrinking of the underlying polish.

Taken in daylight. It looks a bit blue here, but it is really a neutral grey tone.

Taken with flash.
